Best Fire Pit Screen
Both round and square fire pit spark screens are intended to keep sparks, ash and popping wood inside the fire pit, rather than allowing it out into the environment. This allows you to enjoy your outdoor fire pit without running the risk of accidentally setting a fire.
Our choice for Best Spark Screen is the EasyGo Square Fire Screen Protector. By their very nature, fire screens tend to warp and develop weak places once they have been exposed to an open flame. Of all the screens reviewed, it seemed to be the strongest and the least prone to quickly breaking down after exposure to heat. It has a thirty-day money back guarantee, arrives assembled, and generally seems to do a good job of keeping an outdoor bonfire where it belongs.

Runner Up: Best Round Fire Pit Spark Screen
For the Runner-Up Spark Screen, the Sunnydaze Easy Access dome line of spark screens is a good selection. While not as sturdy as the Easygo screen, it has a higher dome, which should help keep the wire and frame above the heat.
It also has the advantage of allowing the user to open it from the side to tend the fire without having to lift the screen.
There are six sizes available; see our Product Reviews section for all the details.

Budget Pick: Fire Pit Screen
The Sun Joe Universal replacement screen is a good screen for any Sun Joe fire pit and will work all right on many other fire pits, as well. While not as sturdy as the Easygo, or as with as great an ease of access as the SunnyDaze easy access, it presents a low-cost solution to keeping sparks and floating ash in the firepit.

Fire Pit Ember Screen Buyer’s Tips
In this section, we’ll look at some of the important factors that go into identifying and purchasing the right fire pit screen for your needs.
Sizing
Each fire pit is a different size, and when purchasing a replacement screen, it can be a challenge to find the right fit. Be sure you measure the lip on your fire pit to ensure that the screen you’re purchasing will be sized properly to sit on the lip of your fire pit, rather than overhanging it.
Many fire pits will give a suggested size for a screen in their instructions, so be sure to check those before you buy.
Accessing the Fire
Some fire pit screens can be opened to enable users to easily get to the fire, while other ones will not open. These must be lifted off and placed on the ground in order to get to the fire to refresh it or otherwise move it around.
Consider whether an operable screen is an important factor in your spark screen.
Warping and Heat
Fire pit screens have an annoying tendency to warp when exposed to heat. If the screen warps too much, it may no longer sit properly on the fire pit, which begins to negate the effectiveness of the spark screen itself.
We’ve identified which spark screens tend to warp, but regardless, the hotter your fire, the more likely your screen will warp.
Try not to go overboard by building too large a fire.
Rust Protection
Over time, the rust-protective coating on your spark screen will wear away. Once that occurs, rust will quickly settle in, and the effectiveness of the screen will be impacted. To fight against this, you can keep an eye on your screen, and regularly spray it with a high-heat rated paint, such as a Rustoleum paint.

Fire Pit Tongs
Fire pit screens can get very very hot, and once your screen is on if you want to add to the fire or otherwise manipulate it, you’ll want some tongs capable of allowing you to open the fire pit screen to get at the fire.

Covering Your Fire Pit
Once your fire is out and everything is cool, you’ll want to brush off your spark screen and store it away for the next fire. The best way to do this is to purchase a fire pit cover that will go over both your fire pit and your spark screen. For the best option for your specific model, be sure to check out our fire pit cover reviews here.
Fire Pit Spark Screen Reviews
In this section, we’ll look closely at five different lines of fire pit spark screens. Three of these are round screens, and two are square. We identify size options, so you can be sure you pick the right screen for your fire pit. To conclude, we identify our favorite options.

Here’s a chart that breaks down the dimensions of the six different options:

The Details
The Sunnydaze dome fire screen is an excellent addition to your patio equipment. It comes with some assembly required, and sets over the firepit. It doesn’t come with a weather cover, and if you don’t have one, you should purchase a fire pit cover separately.
Tongs also will almost certainly be useful to enable you to easily access the screen and add logs.
The screened dome allows the fire to be visible but restrains sparks and large embers from popping out onto the lawn, up into the trees, or onto bystanders.
The dome has a good appearance and can work with almost any fire pit, including a camp pit if desired.
The high crown of the screen allows stacking of wood on the firepit for a slow burndown or a cheerful light for an evening patio party.
The door opens from the bottom and can be pulled back to the top for easy adding of wood.
Durability
The biggest concern with the Sunnydaze line of round fire pit screens is durability. After a few uses, it is pretty likely you’ll start to develop some rust and burned-through areas on the screen. One option to increase the durability is to spray the whole screen with a high-heat Rustoleum paint.
Assembly and Use
The assembly is easy unless someone at Sunnydaze forgets to pack all the hardware! One user noted that the company was quick to send the missing parts, but that the handles didn’t fit correctly and had to be bent to fit.
After use, allow the screen to cool. Brush off loose dirt and ash, check for rust spots or places where the screen is trying to burn through. Cover the cooled screen with a canvas cover or store it in a dry, protected place.
The Bottom Line
Although the sliding door for handling wood makes this a little less sturdy, the Sunnydaze line of fire pit screens is attractive and can give good service if treated with respect.
Refrain from overheating it, and be sure to keep it out of the elements.

2. Sun Joe Universal 26″ Wire Mesh Screen/Spark Guard
Key Points at a Glance
- Solid piece shallow arc fire pit screen
- Woven steel mesh
- Shipped with handle detached
- Withstands temperatures up to 1022 degrees Fahrenheit
- Fits securely on a Sun Joe fire bowl, Model SJFP30-D (sold separately)
Dimensions
- Dimensions: 26″ D X 6″ H wire mesh dome
- Weight: 2.64 pounds
The Details
Sun Joe is a great outdoor products brand, and we are quite fond of their chippers, power shovels, etc. Here, they have produced a universal spark screen that happens to fit all round fire pits that can handle a 26″ screen. Not exactly universal, really!
Use and Functionality
The unit seems to have basic functionality, but users have noted some problems. It looks nice and is supposed to have a looped handle for lifting it.
But it seems to have a history of getting shipped without the handle, or the handle getting lost from the damaged box.
It does not have a door or hinged area for adding wood but does have the handle for lifting it from the fire.
The metal isn’t as strong as some other models, but it should be adequate for a moderate fire.
Assembly
The unit comes completely assembled, except for the handle. This seems to have presented some problems for some buyers because the handle can fall out of a damaged box.
It does not need any particular cleaning or maintenance, beyond brushing away dust and dirt and keeping it dry between uses.
It fits the Sun Joe 22” Firepit, or most other 22” round fire pits.
A canvas cover for when the unit is not in use would be a nice idea but is not included in the package.
The Bottom Line
The Sun Joe is a solid choice as a spark screen, especially when used with Sun Joe fire pits, but it can be used with other brands as well. Just check the fit

- High Temp black paint finish
- Powder coated steel
Dimensions

The Details
Catalina Creations is a high-quality maker of copper fire bowls, and they also make decent replacement spark screens. The Easy Access Spark Screen is a mid-grade screen that opens on the side for easy access to the fire.
The screen seems to be somewhat fragile, meaning that it should not be exposed to an extremely large fire. Some users have found that the screen would no longer close properly after exposure to high heat — it can warp
Build Quality
The screen has an initial good appearance, but several users have reported inconsistency in sizing and warping out of true after exposure to significant heat. It has also been noted that the wire screen is of sufficiently large gauge to allow some sparks through, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the screen!
It has a side door that opens for adding fuel or tending the fire, but it might not operate properly if exposed to high heat. This screen is probably best used on moderately-sized fires.
Several users noted that the holes in the wire were too large and that there were problems with warping and rusting.
Assembly and Use
When all the hardware arrives as promised, it is easy to put together. That said, several buyers have reported their screen arriving without hardware to assemble it, and having to reach out to Catalina Creations, or having to return the screen.
To Preserve your fire screen, allow it to cool completely after use before putting it away. Then brush loose dirt or ash off the screen, and check for rust spots.
If rust is noted, clean the area and use a spray-on heat resistant rust preventative, such as rust oleum.
The Bottom Line
This is nearly as good a screen as the Runner-up and should give good service as a fire screen if not over-heated or left out in the elements.

- Handle adds 2.5 inches to the height
The Details
The EasyGo Fire Pit Screen is an excellently-functioning fire pit spark screen, and if you have a square fire pit, this is an outstanding choice. That said, it is one of those items that people who have reviewed it either loved or hated, mostly due to aesthetics and assembly. Some people had trouble putting it together, while others were disappointed in its looks.
While perhaps not as aesthetic as some of the other choices, the EasyGo has the advantage of being more durable than some of the other choices. Perhaps this is a consequence of its simple, black mesh domed fire screen that is square in shape. Easy to assemble and fit over a square firepit.
Build Quality
Most users find it to be durable and sturdy, and several reviewers commented that it was a good choice for a replacement screen for a square fire pit.
As fire bowl screens go, it is exceptionally sturdy. One user reported that it even held up to being stepped on by a child. It is made from steel and has a black powder coat applied.
The square shape makes it easier to assemble than the round fire screens, and possibly a little more durable.
Like all fire screens, it should be allowed to cool and then have loose dirt and ash brushed off it.
While brushing away the loose dust, check for rust spots and apply a high heat Rustoleum style paint as needed.
Store in a dry place for best results.
Assembly
Some users do find assembly to be challenging, and if you’re one of those people who hates to assemble things, you may want to call a friend to help with this one or check out the Sunnydaze line below.
That said, many find assembly to be not too bad.
The package includes everything you need, including a small wrench and screwdriver for assembly.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that this is an exceptional fire screen. Its only drawbacks are that it is for a square fire pit, which is not as available as the round ones, and some find the aesthetics a bit of a disappointment.

5. Sunnydaze Fire Pit Spark Screen Cover, Outdoor Heavy Duty Square Firepit Lid Protector
Key Points at a Glance
- Square fire screen
- Top crossover steel bands for extra durability
- Top loop handle
- Five sizes
- 1-year manufacturers warranty
- No assembly required
Dimensions
Here’s a chart that shows the various size options.
Last update on 2024-12-06 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API
The Details
The Sunnydaze Square Fire Pit Screen is a very similar design to the round spark screens examined above, but are shaped for square fire pits.
They are covered under a 1-year warranty, and do not have any opening to open the screen; they must be lifted off.
Build Quality
Users were initially pleased with the product, but report that it doesn’t hold up to high heat.
As with many fire screens, after exposure to the elements, this screen may rust and warp.
However, it does help keep sparks and ash from floating away from your fire pit and causing problems.
It has a generally good appearance until it meets with the reality of heat and the outdoor elements. However, loss of appearance does not seem to affect its ability to keep sparks in, at least for a time.
The fire screen is made from steel and is finished with heat resistant paint. That said, avoid building up too hot a fire, as too much heat can cause the frame to warp.
Assembly and Use
No Assembly required, which is a huge plus!
After each use, brush away loose dust and ash, and check for damage to the finish. Use a heat-resistant metal paint like Rustoleum to periodically touch up problem spots.
Store in a dry place.
The Bottom Line
This is a basic spark screen that can be serviceable. However, it is not as durable as the EasyGo or as versatile as the round, dome-shaped Sunnydaze with the side door.

Conclusion
The purpose of a spark screen is to prevent ash and sparks from drifting away from your firepit and to prevent the risk of fires. With that said, aesthetics do count when an item will be visible to the neighbors, or even for your own appreciation.
Our choice for Best Spark Screen is the EasyGo Square Fire Screen Protector because it is both sturdy and reasonably attractive. Its finish will hold up about as well as any of the other fire screens, and it can even withstand being stepped on. If you have a square fire pit, this is a great choice.
Our runner-up, the Sunnydaze Easy Access dome, is also a good option if you have a round fire pit. While not as sturdy as the Easygo screen, its high dome gives it a pleasing appearance, and the ability to access the fire from the side is also an advantage.
Finally, our Budget pick, the Sun Joe Universal, isn’t as sturdy, size-specific, or attractive as the other two, but it is fairly inexpensive.
All firepits will tend to rust, and even the best of them can be damaged by a roaring fire – which isn’t a good idea in your backyard firepit under any circumstances. Used correctly, they can help you recreate those ancestral memories of sitting around a campfire, swapping stories and toasting the day’s catch on a spit.
