Best Kids Patio Set
The best overall set we found was indeed to be a wood set, which was KidKraft’s outdoor table set with the navy blue and white striped canopy and cushions. This particular children’s patio set boasts features like weather-resistant wood, additional storage beneath each seat, and plenty of space for the kids to sit down and enjoy it.
It should fit almost any patio or outside setting, making it a great gift for anyone with kids.
Note: It’s not to be confused with the KidKraft 5-piece patio set, discussed below, which has a few issues.

Runner Up: Best Children’s Patio Furniture Set
Our runner-up choice is Tot Tutor’s hard plastic kids set, which has 4 multi-colored chairs and a small rectangular table. It’s made of plastic, and is bright, cheerful, and super cute.
This set doesn’t include an umbrella, which makes it perhaps a better indoor/outdoor choice, but it means that you’ll have to keep it under a porch, sun shade sail, or similar. And keep some children’s sunscreen handy.

Budget Choice: Kids Outdoor Furniture Set
Although it’s in the same price range as our runner-up from Tot Tutor, Cotzon’s Kids ladybug patio set boasts a fun design that kids will love and a great price point.
It has an oversized umbrella, which is beneficial (as some of the sets we saw had umbrellas that came up just a bit short and were too small for functional use), and includes two chairs and a cute table, all in a Ladybug theme. Of course, this set only seats two and may be a bit too “gendered” for some parents.

Kids Patio Set Buyer’s Tips
When it comes to choosing the right patio set for your kids, there are a few primary considerations to keep in mind: what kind of build you want (plastic or wood), how old your children are, and what kind of price range you are shopping in.
Typically, hard plastic sets tend to be on the budget side but are more suited for toddlers and a lower age range. On the other hand, wood sets lend to a more professional look and can be used for a few years as the kids grow up.
In this section, we’ll look at several aspects to keep in mind while shopping for a child-sized patio set.
Material and Construction
The common materials for kids patio sets are molded plastic, wood, and metal.
Resin Plastic
Molded plastic is generally the cheapest option, and is usually colorful and quite robust. You generally leave it outside and while it may fade somewhat, it will stay in decent shape and will be viable for several years.
Wood
Wood is the most attractive option for kids patio sets and is the highest end option. Wood looks great, and most wooden kid’s sets look like miniaturized adult patio furniture sets. They look great and have an authenticity that you don’t get from the cheap plastic look. However, the wood look is usually not as “fun”, and it requires maintenance just as any other wooden outdoor furniture piece requires.
Sanding, staining, painting, and covering when not in use will be important if you choose a wooden patio set.
Metal
Metal is fairly lightweight, easy to work with, and can be attractive if nicely finishes. You’ll have to watch out for rust when choosing a metal kids furniture set, but otherwise, metal is a pretty good choice.
Durability
Most kids furniture sets will last 10 years or more if properly cared for. Of course, most of the sets are only designed for an age range between about 3 and 7, before the kids start to move into adult-sized furniture pieces in general. There’s not much need for kid-sized sets at that point, so durability may not be a huge issue.
Of course, if you’d like to be able to pass down your set, or to put it on Craiglist when you’re done, choosing a durable material that will look great years from now is a good idea.
Age Range
Most of the sets we discuss here are for kids between about 3-7. The manufacturers usually give estimated age ranges, but some of them seem kinda off too us.
In our reviews, we touch on the advertised age range when available, and also give our own estimate, that will hopefully be a bit more accurate.
Umbrella and Shade
One of the most important questions to consider is whether or not you need an umbrella for shade. If you’re going to place your kid’s patio set under a porch roof, awning, pergola, etc., then you probably won’t need an umbrella, but if it will be out in the open, an umbrella is a huge help.
Many parents are hyper-vigilant of too much sun exposure on their kids’ relatively fragile skin, and having good shade can remove a potential hassle from the equation. There’s less need for regular application of kids sunscreen if they’re protected under shade already.
Ease of Assembly
No one wants to be greeted to a poorly illustrated 40-page tome, and a giant bag of unlabeled hardware, upon receiving a package of furniture. Ease of assembly is important, and the good news is that most of the furniture sets on our list today have a very easy assembly process.
Indoor/Outdoor Use
A lot of parents are looking for a kids set that works both outdoors and indoors. When the weather gets frightful, it’s helpful to be able to bring the patio set inside, but still use it so the kids can have an extra art table, or whatever.
Consider what you’ll be doing with your set during the offseason, and whether or not that impacts the type of patio set you want.
Ease of Storage
If you’re going to use your set indoors during the offseason, you don’t really need to worry about storage. But if not, then you should consider where you’ll be putting your set, and how easily the pieces fold up or break down for storage.
Some sets become pretty compact, with nesting chairs, folding designs, and the like. But others don’t have any of these features, and either need to be broken down into pieces for storage or left full sized.

1. Grow’n Up Patio Set with 4 Chairs and Umbrella
A basic, fun-colored plastic set best suited for younger children.
Key Points at a Glance
- Comes with four chairs, umbrella, table
- UV protected plastic
- Easy assembly
- Fun colored design for kids
- High back support for chairs
- Published Age Range is 3-6, but in reality, it’s probably more like 3-5
Contact the seller directly on Amazon for warranty information.
Dimensions and Specs
- Item weight: 19 pounds
- Shipping weight: 22 pounds
- Table: 26” diameter
- Chairs: 50 pound weight limit; 12.5 x 12.6 x 19 inches
- Umbrella: 42”
The Details
The Grow’n Up table set with 4 chairs and an umbrella is best for younger children, given its lightweight plastic and ultra-cheerful, colorful design. Its UV-resistant finish and easy snap-together assembly make it an appealing choice for those who want to put their kid patio set together and then not have to worry about it much. Maintenance is light, and the material is robust.
The umbrella makes it great for outdoor use, though its prone to fading. Still, having that protection for your kids in easy reach is a great comfort.
Grow’n Up’s chairs have a high back design giving way to a sturdier seat for the children using it.
When considering this kid’s patio set, it’s good to keep in mind that the chairs and table run a little on the small side. Therefore, it’s best for younger toddlers, as school-aged kids will probably be too big for this table. Additionally, the tabletop isn’t completely flat, it has some grooves that simulate wood slats.
This may translate into minor headaches for kids who want to draw or color on their table. They’ll need some sort of backing to their drawings.
The Grow’n Up patio set holds up pretty well, as it is made of pretty rugged plastic. The umbrella will likely fade within a year or so, if not covered.
The Bottom Line
The price range is right in the middle on this one, making it an appealing option as it’s pretty sturdy and kid-proof, without a lot of fuss.
The umbrella should help keep them cool and out of the sun while the hard plastic provides surprisingly good durability. Just be aware that the published 3-6 year-old age range is… optimistic.
- Snaps together for easy set up! no tools required
- UV protected plastic
- Includes: table, 4 chairs, umbrella

2. Tot Tutors Kids Plastic Table and 4 Chairs Set
Similar to Grow’n Up’s design, this is another 4-piece “fun” colored set with four chairs and a table.
Key Points at a Glance
- Includes square table, four chairs total
- Yellow plastic table; multi-colored chairs
- Easy to clean
- Manufacturer’s Age RAnge is 3 and up, we would say 3-5 or so.
Warranty information can be requested from Amazon customer service.
Dimensions and Specs
- Item weight: 11.02 pounds
- Shipping weight: 12.6 pounds
- Table: 20 x 20 x 17 inches
- Chairs: 12 x 11 x 18
The Details
With four chairs, a small square table, and a fun-colored design, the Tot Tutors kids patio furniture set is once again best used for younger children. The bright, colorful set with multiple chair color options certainly lends itself well to places like child daycares, where a few reviewers have noted using them to great success. The whole set is very sunny and cute!
But it’s not just cute, it’s really pretty robust, as well! Assembly isn’t particularly difficult, and most will find they’re done it in 15 minutes or so. It essentially snaps together.
Unfortunately, no umbrella is included in this package, and there’s no built-in hole for an umbrella to be inserted through the table. Given how susceptible many kids are to damage from the sun, this is a disappointment.
One thing to consider is that this set may be prone to sliding on smoother surfaces, such as if you were to use in inside on a glossy hardwood floor.
You may want to look into some non-slip adhesives for the bottom of the set if so, but it should be fine on all other surfaces.
The Bottom Line
This is a great budget option as it comes in at a very low price point. Its design makes it great for children ages 3 to 5 or so, and it’s perfect in daycares or classrooms with a colorful design.
Of course, it would also fit well in backyards or a children’s playroom, but you’ll have to be a bit more diligent with the sunscreen than with some of the other options on our list.

3. Cotzon Kids Table and 2 Chairs Set
The Ladybug bistro-set design coupled with two chairs, a table, and large umbrella makes this perfect for younger children during the summer months.
Key Points at a Glance
Includes two chairs, round table, umbrella
- Ladybug design on each item
- Easily assembled with no tools required
- Removable umbrella
- Stainless steel frame with folding chairs
- UV resistant plastic
- Non-slip feet
Contact the seller directly on Amazon for customer service information.
Dimensions and Specs
- Item weight: 9 pounds
- 40 x 15 x 49.6 inches
- Chair weight capacity: 66 pounds
The Details
With two chairs, a circular table, and an umbrella, Cotzon’s design is a bit smaller than other children’s patio sets we’ve reviewed — it’s more of a bistro set than a kids picnic table.
The tabletop is a bit on the small side, so if your kids like to go crazy with coloring and drawing, they may struggle for space with this table. But if they can keep things contained, the Cotzon set is super cute and extremely practical. It’s great for meals, and for general playing.
Pricewise, it’s appropriately priced, given what is on offer: it comes in at a low price, which makes sense given that it is only made for two children. With that said, we consider it a budget option, and a great one at that.
Assembly-wise, it’s one of the easiest of the bunch, requiring no tools and having a snap-together design.
The stainless steel frame and plastic (UV-resistant) exterior make it sturdy while in use. The chairs fold up for easy storage, which is always a plus.
And the umbrella will give some comfort, as your kids will generally be protected from the sun while using this kids outdoor furniture set.
One of the best design features that we see is exclusive to this patio set is the non-slip feet, which can prove useful on certain types of patios-especially if younger children are using it. These feet should help to keep the table and chairs grounded, preventing accidents and injuries.
It is the only set to feature a stainless steel frame, which should support its longevity over a few seasons. It adds durability and weight to what is otherwise a light set, though buyers should keep an eye out for bare spots in the paint. Rust can form in those areas.
The Bottom Line
The Cotzon patio set is decent as a smaller, budget option, but lacks the larger seating capacity of the other sets on our list.
The ladybug design is ridiculously cute and is ideal for younger children, but may need the right setting or area to support it. And this set is the most strongly “gendered” set on our list, which some parents and kids may not love.
Overall though, it’s a solid choice budget given its low price point, easy assembly, and extra features like non-slip feet and UV-resistant plastic.

4. KidKraft Oatmeal & White Outdoor Patio Set
A more mature design than the plastic patio sets. The fact that it’s built with wood rather than plastic makes it more aesthetically fitting in most yards.
Key Points at a Glance
Includes two chairs, bench, table, and umbrella
- Umbrella is oatmeal and white color design; chairs and table are dark brown
- Weather-resistant wood
- Pre-assembled panels for easy assembly
- Manufacturer recommended for ages 3 to 15, but our estimate is more like 3-10.
Contact the seller directly on Amazon for warranty information.
Dimensions and Specs
- Item weight: 49.2 pounds
- 25.1 x 13 x 25.5 inches
The Details
If you’re looking for a patio set for your children that has a professional finish, then look no further than the KidKraft patio sets!
The dark brown stained wood, coupled with an oatmeal-and-white umbrella, lends this set the sophistication of an adult patio furniture set, but with perhaps a little more whimsy than what you commonly see from a standard patio furniture set.
We should note that the advertised age range for this is 3-15 years. We assume that’s an error, and it should be 3-10 years or so. Our guess is that after that, most kids will have grown out of this one.
This KidKraft set is a bit higher price point than most of the other sets listed here, but the main difference is that it is made of real wood as opposed to hard plastic as we have seen with a few of the other patio sets.
Wood costs more. Wood looks nicer.
Of course, wood requires more care, too! Treat this set as you would any wooden patio furniture set, and cover it when not in use. Stain or paint as needed to ensure that the wood is protected, and store the umbrella when it’s not being used.
Assembly time is drastically reduced by having pre-assembled panels, so this isn’t a huge assembly process.
The wood is weather-resistant and overall quite sturdy, but some customers have noted that it didn’t hold up quite as well as expectations would have it.
This seems to be one of the only (albeit big) downsides to this, as you’ll likely want to get more than one or two seasons of use out of these sets.
The Bottom Line
A major issue impacting the very functionality of this set seems to be the standard of quality. Many have noted it’s simply not as sturdy as expected, especially given the fairly high price point and wood construction.
If you are looking for another higher end children’s patio set, then KidKraft’s 4-piece set (which we review next) should prove a better candidate.
The main difference is it seems to be made from a different type of wood and it features benches rather than chairs.
- Folding umbrella
- Sturdy table, bench and two chairs
- Preassembled panels cut down on assembly time
- Designed with growing children in mind
- Made of weather-resistant wood

5. KidKraft Outdoor Table and Chair Set with Cushions and Navy Stripes
This kids patio furniture set is the best in-between option for those wants something priced in the middle of the plastic sets we first we reviewed and KidKraft’s Oatmeal & White outdoor set.
Key Points at a Glance
- Includes two benches, rectangular table, and umbrella
- Navy blue and white striped umbrellas, bench cushions
- Light wood colored benches and table
- Weather-resistant wood
- Storage included beneath each bench
Contact the seller directly on Amazon for customer warranty information.
Dimensions and Specs
- Item weight: 44.1 pounds
- 42.1 x 22.8 x 19 inches
The Details
Featuring a lighter color wood than the previous patio set by KidKraft, this umbrella and table set uses a pair of benches rather than chairs. Generally, it can fit up to four children, but you may be able to get three on each side if they don’t mind a close fit, and they’re on the small side.
Each bench comes with a cushion that matches the umbrella: navy blue and white stripes. It runs the length of the bench and really helps elevate the design of this set. The KidKraft 4-piece set is practical, attractive, and sturdy.
It should be good for kids up to about 10 years old, and this set definitely has a look that will appeal to school-age kids as opposed to toddlers.
There is also a multi-purpose shelf underneath each bench, which is best used as storage. It runs the full length of the bench and is not protected from the elements. But it’s a helpful spot for quick storage of art supplies or whatever.
Assembly-wise, you will have to attach the legs to both the table and the benches. It shouldn’t take too long, as instructions and an Allen wrench are provided. This isn’t a nightmare assembly, but neither is it as simple as snapping on the legs.
One of the very few downsides to this set is that the umbrella is just a bit on the small side, as noted by some reviewers. This can limit its functionality to only when the sun is directly overhead. You’ll still want to keep some sunscreen on the kids using this table.
The Bottom Line
If you have multiple children, or they frequently have friends over, then this bench and table combination should suit them well.
It is suitable for children of older ages as well, as it really just looks like a scaled down version of an adult patio furniture set.
The KidKraft 4-piece patio set will be usable for several years if properly cared for, looks great, and is made of solid wood. These features make this the best kids patio set around.

Conclusion
When it comes to kids patio sets, there’s certainly a variety to choose from. They range from colorful hard plastic sets that are great for toddlers, to professional looking mini picnic tables that could be good for up to around 10 years old. The best option for you will depend on the age of your children, and your budget.
What we found to be the best overall set was KidKraft’s set, which featured a small rectangular table, two accompanying benches, and navy blue and white striped cushions and umbrella. It fits kids of all ages and should fit in the scenery of most yards as well.
The runner-ups, which also function as great budget options, are the options from Tot Tutors and Cotzon. Tot Tutors was the second set we reviewed and featured hard plastic and a multi-colored design; four small chairs and around a square table.
Cotzon’s ladybug designed set was not far behind, featuring two chairs, a round table, and an oversized umbrella. This unit is very cute, though may be too gendered for some parents, and it only seats two. It’s a great choice for its price, though!
