Best Mosquito Killer
Mosquito management is an important part of outdoor and patio living. Mosquitoes are annoying pests and can be quite dangerous, even fatal. After looking at several mosquito-management systems, we’ve found that the best mosquito killer for most typical users is the Flowtron BK-15D. It is a bug zapper light, can cover about 1/2 an acre of area, and has a nice balance between price and effectiveness. It’s also chemical-free.
The BK-15D uses a simple cartridge system which lures mosquitoes, and a bug zapper light to eliminate them. The cartridges last for about 30 days each.
Flowtron’s BK-15D is an energy efficient product, as it uses a 15-watt bulb. It is an outstanding mosquito-control device.

Runner Up: Best Quick-Acting Mosquito Killer
Our runner-up option is an electric fogger style mosquito management system, specifically the Burgess 960 Electric Insect Fogger. This unit requires electricity and insecticide to use, and we can’t say that we love using insecticides. However, it is quite effective and will clear up mosquitoes for 6-7 hours with a 10-minute treatment.
This sort of design is ideal for those who are hosting cookouts, outdoor parties, weddings, and the like.

Budget Choice: Mosquito Killer
If you are short on money and still want to get rid of the annoying mosquitoes then it’s worth checking out the ENKEEO 2-in-1 Camping Lantern Bug Zapper. This bug zapper/LED light is battery-powered and doesn’t need to be plugged into a socket. It’s ideal for use in gazebos, pavilions, tents, and the like where you don’t have a power source.
The ENKEEO provides illumination and bug control at a budget price. However, it only works in small, enclosed areas, so don’t plan on it working over a full yard like most of the other products on our list!

Mosquito Killer Buyer’s Tips
There are a variety of different methods of dealing with mosquito infestation, including bug zapper lights, propane foggers, and can-foggers. However, before we look at these mosquito management methods, it’s extremely important to start with first principals: preventing and minimizing mosquito infestation.
Get Rid of Water Pools and Puddles
By far the most important mosquito-management task you should do every few weeks, and especially after a lot of rain, is to walk around your target area and check for standing water. Mosquitos can breed in tiny amounts of standing water, so get rid of any water you can. The fewer places mosquitoes have to breed, the fewer mosquitos you’ll have in your area.
Make Nature Work For You
There are a variety of natural mosquito management methods, including encouraging bats to roost in the area and planting mosquito-repellant plants.
Bat Houses
Consider purchasing a bat house and placing it on your property. Bats love to eat mosquitoes (though some reports exaggerate the mosquito-eating acumen of bats), and a reasonable bat population will certainly help with your mosquito problem. See our article on the best bat houses if you’re interested in giving these wonderful mosquito-hunters a home.
Mosquito-Repellent Plants
Mosquitoes don’t love the smell of certain plants, including many common herbs. Consider planting some mosquito-repellant plants in your yard, and these plants will help keep mosquitoes away from your property.
Use Scented Oils
Scented oils can help keep mosquitoes away. Citronella is the most well-known, but eucalyptus is much more effective.
Citronella Burners and Oils
Many find that using citronella oil burners and tiki torches will help keep mosquitoes away. These are a great strategy for mosquito management, though we strongly suggest users try eucalyptus oil instead of citronella oil. Eucalyptus oil is more effective at keeping mosquitoes away than citronella is, and is the best fuel for tiki torches.
Should you want to switch between citronella and eucalyptus, be sure to switch out your torch wicks at the same time.
Increase Air Flow
Outdoor pedestal fans and ceiling fans can help control mosquitoes by increasing airflow. Mosquitoes are not strong flyers, and even small breezes can prevent them from landing on you. Carefully-positioned fans around people outside can significantly reduce the mosquito problem.
Consider the Type of Mosquito Control Method You Want
In this article, we’ll look at a few mosquito zapper bulbs, an electric mosquito killer, and a fogger.
Bug Zapper Bulbs
Bug zapper bulbs and lights are a good solution, as they don’t contaminate the air, water, and land with pesticides and poisonous chemicals. They simply use certain light frequencies to lure mosquitoes to their deaths.
These units will often also double as regular LED bulbs, providing illumination as well.
Electric Mosquito Killers
Electric mosquito killers function somewhat similar to mosquito bulbs, but don’t emit a ton of light, and don’t double as an LED light. If you’re not in need of additional lighting, these may be a good route to go.
Propane Foggers
These units are hooked up to a propane tank and fog the area, which will cause mosquitoes to perish in the area. These gases are poison and are generally not the first stop when attempting to control mosquitoes, though they are quite effective.
If you have children and/or pets, you may want to try a few other options first.
Mosquito Attract Cartridges
Mosquito-attract cartridges, which can be used with any mosquito killer system, can be a big help in controlling these pests. There are several different manufacturers, though Flowtron’s are a great place to start. These are particularly designed to work with Flowtron’s systems, but they’ll work with any system. These cartridges use Octenol to lure mosquitoes toward the mosquito killing device, making the device more effective.
They are inexpensive and don’t release poison into the air or water. They’re definitely worth using in combination with your system of choice. Typically they need to be changed every 30 days, but the warmer the weather, the shorter their duration will be.

The Details
The Flowtron BK-15D is considered to be a true mosquito killer, great for reasonably-large areas. It covers an area of about half an acre, which will cover most yards of those who live in suburban or urban areas.
The BK-15D is a bug zapper light style mosquito killer, though it does not feature an LED light on it, as is common on some of the other bug zapper bulbs. It works on electricity, so you’ll have to keep it somewhere near the socket when you can plug it in.
Moreover, it is recommended that usesplace the device at about 25 feet of distance from human activity, as you don’t to attract the bugs to where you are sitting or working!
Build Quality and Use
Place it in a corner, and you’ll be finding far fewer mosquitoes in your yard. Opt for more a more powerful option if you want to cover a larger area. It’s available in three sizes, 0.5 acre, 1 acre, and 1.5 acres, and hits a pretty nice price point.
What makes this device better than most is its ability to never get clogged. No matter how many mosquitoes it zaps, it never clogs. The killing grid is powered by a transformer (high voltage). This technology kills the mosquito on a single touch.
With Flowtron, you don’t have to worry about your electricity bill, because it only utilizes a 15-watt bulb (black light, BF35) to do the job.
Mosquito Attract Cartridges
As mentioned above, be sure you pick up some Flowtron Octenol Mosquito attract cartridges to go with this unit, as they will help lure the mosquitoes to the bug zapper. These will usually work for around 30 days, though the hotter the temperature, the shorter the duration of each cartridge.
One cartridge is included in the package, though you will almost certainly want more.

Assembly and Cleaning
There’s no assembly required on this unit, which is always a plus! Just stick an attract cartridge to it, and plug it in away from people. And then let it work its mosquito magic!
To clean, most find that it is easiest to spray the Flowtron with compressed air to shoot the dead bugs out of the unit. You can also simply shake the bugs out, though you run the risk of damaging the bulb by doing that. And the bulb replacements are almost as expensive as the light itself!
That said, this mosquito killer is designed to run for years, thanks to its polycarbonate construction that makes it waterproof, fade proof, and crackproof. It will work outdoors or indoors, should you desire.
The Bottom Line
This is without a doubt the best product on our list due to many reasons. It covers a wide area and works quite effectively. The cartridges are fairly inexpensive and significantly increase the effectiveness of the BK-15D.
And one cartridge easily lasts for around 30 days, making it affordable in the long-run.
No other product on our list compares to the features, performance, and price point of this zapper.

- Waterproof.
- Works silently.

The Details
HuntingGood Electric Mosquito Insect Killer uses an LED light bulb to trap flies, mosquitoes, and many other kinds of pests. It can be used indoors or outdoors, though it is more effective in small, enclosed areas. It kills the mosquitoes in one zap, and the bulb is meant to run for 100,000 hours.
This unit is USB-powered, and can be plugged into a computer, or can be connected to a wall outlet using one of those power-blocks commonly used in conjunction with a phone or tablet.
Build Quality and Use
The bright blue light attracts the mosquitoes to its electronic doom. When they finally land on the device, it passes a 365 NM wavelength UV light that kills the insect instantly.
The built-in fan sucks ‘em in, and then they are dropped into the mosquito storage area at the bottom of the device. This basket can be easily removed and dumped out for disposal, and should be cleaned once every couple of weeks.
It’s very easy to see the cumulative impact of this mosquito killer on those times when you go to dump it out.
HUNTINGOOD’s insect killer works like a charm in closed and dark places, because the impact of the light’s attraction power increases in relatively-dark areas, compared to daylight areas and rooms with the lights on.
It’s a great choice for indoor areas and enclosed outdoor spaces like screened-in porches.
This device is meant to clean sweep all of the mosquitoes in 2-3 days. What you need to do is place it in a room, close the windows and doors. If you have shades, pull them down. The darker the room, the better the LED bulb’s attraction.
This product is ideal for indoor use and can be placed at a number of places including bathrooms, bedrooms, inside tents, and camps.
The highlight of the product is that it is waterproof. You won’t have to worry about rain or splashes of water if you place it near the window, or on the screened-in porch. It has a durable body and is meant to last for many years.
As an added protection, however, HUNTINGOOD offers a 1-year warranty. Always a plus!
You won’t be hearing any buzzing sounds, beeps or flickers from this device, as it operates silently.
Cleaning and Care
HUNTINGOOD suggests you open the mosquito storage box (where the dead mosquitoes end up) every two weeks. Empty the box, clean it, and place it back in. The opening and closing of this chamber is easy and only requires a slight twist.
The Bottom Line
We believe that HUNTINGOOD’s mosquito killer is an excellent choice for those who want a product that looks more like a Google Home or Amazon Alexa than an ugly bug light. It works well in small, enclosed spaces, and in areas that don’t get much light.
However, it only works in a small, fairly enclosed area, which is an obvious negative compared to some of the other options on our list.

It is ideal for soft top gazebos, tents, and other areas where you may spend time outdoors in an fairly enclosed space, but without easy access to electricity to plug in a bulb.
Build Quality and Use
This bug zapper bulb functions both as a mosquito control system and a helpful LED battery-powered bulb. It is ideal for homes, tents, porches, gazebos, etc. as the ENKEEO works best in limited, enclosed areas, say 16′ x 16′ or less.
There’s an LED bulb inside the product that acts as bait for mosquitoes by producing a bright attractive light (300 to 400 nm of wavelength). As soon as the mosquitoes are drawn close and they hit the device, they are zapped with a 1000V current and killed instantly.
BZZRP.
Use of this lamp is super simple. First ensure it’s charged up using USB power (you can charge it off a laptop, or in a wall socket with a power block). Then you can either hang it using the hook it comes equipped with or fold the hook and place on a table or floor.
There’s a 2000mAh battery installed inside the product that is rechargeable with a USB. This battery is enough to provide a long runtime ranging from 6 to 20 hours, depending upon the intensity and mode of light you choose. There are four lighting options: three LED light power levels, and the bug zapper light as well.
The product is completely safe to use because it is enclosed in a plastic cage to protect the users from accidentally touching the electric component.
Cleaning and Care
Cleaning this unit is perhaps the easiest of all on our list. It is waterproof and can be washed under tap water, which is great.
The Bottom Line

It serves as both a bug killer and lantern and produces 300-400 nm of wavelength: better than most zappers. It kills the mosquitoes in one go with a 1000V zap.
Just be aware that it only functions in a small area.

Burgess 960 Electric Insect Fogger for Fast and Effective Mosquito Control
Key Points at a Glance
- It can be used on a 5,000 square foot yard and will kill mosquitoes in just 10 minutes.
- Kills and keeps the mosquitoes and flying insects at bay for up to 6 hours.
- Produces 7 times smaller particles than mist.
- The fog spreads and is eventually gone in five minutes, and you can carry on with activities in the area.
- Easy to use with a trigger lock (the user is protected from accidentally spraying the insecticide).
- The fog can reach up to 10 feet of height.
- It comes with a 1-year warranty.
Dimensions
- Dimensions: 16″ x 12″ x 7″
- Weight: 4.2 lbs
The Details
Foggers are very different mosquito management systems than zappers are, and control mosquitoes by using insecticides with propane heat. This design is often quite effective, just be aware that you’re putting poisonous chemicals into the environment, which many (including us!) are uncomfortable with.
That said, they’re very effective and work quickly, and seem to use less insecticide than other propane foggers on the market.
You can see a short video here, showing the basics of how this system works.
Build Quality and Use
The Burgess Fogger is pretty easy to use.
To start with, it’s a good idea to put on a mask while fogging and be sure make sure there’s no one nearby if you are using it in your garden or backyard. Also, if you’re spraying near the house, ensure all windows are closed, as you don’t want the fog entering the house.
To fill the cylinder, first lock the trigger and turn on the fuel valve in the reservoir to fill it with an insecticide and tighten it.
Using a long-format lighter, ignite the fogger, and let it warm up for a couple of minutes.
After igniting it, unlock the trigger and start trigging the unit. The fog will begin to spread in all directions both vertically and horizontally, killing even hidden mosquitoes. If the liquid starts to drip out, slow down your pumping frequency.
The fog disappears in only 5-10 minutes, and you can resume your activity without having to keep out from the place for several hours.
It can be difficult to tell if the system is ignited in the beginning, and you should be careful not to touch or get too close to the coil system, as it can get very hot. After a few minutes, the coil can get red hot, to approximately 2500′, so be careful with this system!
Insecticide
Burgess suggests that you only use this system with Black Flag, Cutter, or Repel fogging insecticide. Any is fine, and all will work quite effectively to control your mosquito population.
Last update on 2025-01-06 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API
The Bottom Line
If you want to steer clear of mosquitoes in your garden, this fogger is a good choice. It uses propane-powered insecticide to kill and repel mosquitoes and is quite effective. It’s great for those times where you want to clear all the bugs away prior to hosting a party or outdoor gathering.
It’s not a passive system, unlike all the other mosquito killers on our list, making the Burgess great for short-term insect management. Just be careful with it, as this stuff is not good for you or your family!

5. Flowtron Diplomat FC-8800 Mosquito Control Light, 120-Watt
Key Points at a Glance
- Capable of controlling mosquitoes over a large area
- Great for commercial use
- Features an easily-removable collection tray
- Mosquito bulb is UV Bulb
- Can be hung or set on a table
- Quiet operation
- 1 Year Warranty
- Use mosquito lures to increase effectiveness
Dimensions
- Includes 3 40 Watt bulbs
- Covers Roughly 2 acres in size
- Mounts Horizontally and Vertically
- Weighs 20 lbs.
- Dimensions: 12 x 12 x 27 in.
The Details
The Flowtron FC-8800 Diplomat Fly and Mosquito control lamp is a larger, more powerful version of the Flowtron BK15-D discussed above. It is capable of controlling mosquitoes over a two-acre area, which is incredible.
However, this unit is pricey, requires cartridges to make it work as effectively as possible, and also uses a good deal of electricity. But for those of us who have severe bug management issues, this is the ultimate bug zapper light.
Build Quality and Use
The FC-8800 Diplomat is a bug zapper bulb that doesn’t have a standard LED light on it; it just works as a bug zapper. It must be plugged into a wall outlet for power, and it should be placed at least 25′ from people.
The zapper is powered by three ultraviolet bulbs, all placed within the FC-8800 container. Its glow (along with mosquito attract cartridges) lure the mosquitoes, and the high-power bulb zaps them with a satisfying ZRRIP.
This style of unit excels in areas like barns and farm areas, chicken coops, warehouses, porches, and the like. If you have a large infestation, the FC-8800 Diplomat will solve your problem, and it won’t be through negotiations!
Cleaning and Care
Mosquitoes are collected in the bottom of the container and can be easily disposed of by twisting off the bottom and emptying the container out.
Wipe the unit out with a clean cloth, and you’ll be good to go again in no time.
Flowtron Mosquito and Fly Lures
The Flowtron FC-8800 is much more effective as an insect killer when it is paired with insect lure cartridges. Flowtron makes both fly and mosquito cartridges, and these units simply stick to the bottom of the FC-8800, releasing Octenol, the mosquito sex pheromone. These cartridges last around 30 days, though if the temperature is particularly warm, they’ll last for a shorter duration.

The Bottom Line
The Flowtron is a great choice for those who want to manage bugs over a large area, or in areas particularly troublesome like in barns, coops, and the like. Clearly, this option is significantly more expensive than the other choices on our list, but it covers the widest area.
The bulbs can be quite expensive if they break, so be careful with the unit. As a plus, this light is covered under a 1-year warranty.
If you have a severe infestation or a difficult circumstance to manage, the Flowtron FC-8800 is the ideal mosquito management system for you!
- Control night flying insect up to 2 acres
- 120 watts UV lure power covers 1,200 sqft indoors

Conclusion- Best Mosquito Management System
Homeowners have a lot of options when it comes to bug management. Mostly they have to choose for themselves how aggressive they want to be in attacking the mosquitos and if an active fogger system or a more passive trap might be best. Many different tools are available but homeowners should use caution with all of them.
