Generally, Modenzi’s offerings are positioned toward the low to medium end of the price spectrum, though their quality is often outstanding relative to their prices.
Modenzi Design and Comfort
Most buyers who purchase these outdoor couch sets agree that they look stunning, particularly for the price. They are very modern and clean looking, with no extra detailing or unnecessary frills. The system will not be suited for everyone though.
Chair Height
The chairs have been designed to sit fairly low, and to have quite low backs, with a seat height of 16″ and 25″ to from the floor to the top of the seats. For those who have trouble getting in and out of chairs, these outdoor seating areas will be difficult to get out of. Additionally, for tall people, the low back chairs may not provide a ton of back support.
Extra support cushions may help solve these issues.
Cushion Thickness

Modenzi Furniture Basics
Frames
The frames of virtually all Modenzi pieces are made of aluminum and are wrapped with a PE-Wicker weave. Aluminum frames have many positive aspects. Perhaps most importantly, aluminum doesn’t rust! These frames are powder coated for further durability, but in general, you shouldn’t have any worries about rust with an aluminum frame.
Additionally, aluminum is a light-weight metal. That means your Moednzi sectional pieces will be pretty easy to move around. This is ideal if you frequently like to rearrange your sectional furniture. However, this also means that the wind may move around your furniture, too. These sectional pieces have a tendency to blow away if they’re not weighted or otherwise secured.
It’s a good idea to ensure your pieces are all clipped to each other before you head in for the night, or otherwise covered with a patio furniture cover. This will help protect against flying furniture. Note that Modenzi does not include sectional clips with their sets, so be sure to pick some up (more on this below).
The wicker on the frames is a PE-resin weave. PE-resin is not as good as HDPE-resin, but it’s a lot cheaper. It’s an appropriate material for outdoor furniture in Modenzi’s price range and will last for years outdoors if covered when not in use.
There are a few different wicker colors generally available, including white, espresso, and brown. All of the rattan is hand-woven, and it is all PE-wicker.
Cushion Covers
Modenzi’s standard cushion covers are made of polyester, and while they are outdoor materials, they will fade pretty quickly if left out in the elements for extended periods of time. The darker the color, the more you’ll notice fading.
Over time, you may want to get new custom Sunbrella cushions to replace the existing ones. Sunbrella fabric is much more capable of resisting the elements, and will last longer than polyester. You can always get to this at a later date after the original cushion covers have faded.
The cushion covers on Modenzi’s furniture is likely the weakest part of their offering, and you should do what you can to protect the covers from the elements as much as possible by covering them and/or storing them in a deck box when not in use.
Also, spraying the cushion covers with a UV-protective spray will almost certainly extend the life of the cushions, and is a cheap and easy way to keep the original set looking good for as long as possible.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Fortunately, the covers all include zippers, which makes cleaning in a washing machine pretty easy. You can machine wash these covers, but you can’t dry these in a machine. You don’t want the cushion covers to shrink, and if you machine dry them, you run the risk that they’ll shrink and no longer fit around the cushions.
Be sure you line dry these!
Cushions
The cushions on Modenzi’s sofas are about 4″ thick and are reasonably comfortable. The cushions aren’t particularly thick as sofa cushions go, which is good if they get wet. They’ll dry out fairly quickly. But they don’t provide as much comfort as thicker cushions.
You may want to pick up a few throw pillows and toss them on the couch. The pillows will help the look, and will provide additional comfort!
Assembly
Modenzi’s furniture sets are all flat packed, Ikea-style pieces. Generally, the assembly is not particularly difficult, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind.
The most important thing to remember when dealing with assembly is that you should always get all of the bolts started on a piece, and then go back and do a second round to tighten everything up. By getting every bolt started before fully tightening, you can ensure all the holes line up, and nothing is askew. If you fully tighten the pieces from the get-go, you’ll likely get misaligned holes, and headaches.
Also, it’s a good idea to open one box at a time and assemble that piece before moving onto the next. If you go too far, you can get confused as to what panel goes with what piece.
Sectional Clips
For some reason, Modenzi doesn’t include sectional clips with their sectional furniture sets. These clips help hold the sectional pieces together, and are required for those who want to keep their sectional set as one piece. Be sure to pick up some sectional clips as part of your package.

It’s worth noting the rule of thumb that:
- A 2-sectional sofa will need 2 connectors. Each leg that touches another leg should have a clip.
- Hence, you will need two alignment clips for every adjoining module of furniture.
- The clips come in two sizes: Small 1.74″ and Medium 2.135″
- Measure the width of the tubes together at the base of two sofas, to assess the size of your clips.
Warranty
Modenzi offers a 90-day warranty on their frames, but no warranty on their cushions. Once assembled, the frames should be good for a while if properly cared for. But again, it’s best to be very careful and protect the cushions as much as possible.

The 7G-U is a basic sectional set, with 1 coffee table, and 6 individual sofa sections (no ottoman pieces included). The fact that these pieces are sectional means that you can shape the furniture pieces to the size of your outdoor area.
The set is delivered well packed and in numerous boxes. Assembly of each piece is necessary, so it’s ideal to have an electric screwdriver on hand.
Be careful not to mix up the side pieces each module, as they are different and you don’t want to add stress to the frames.

Modenzi furniture looks stunning and is quite affordable. There are a few factors that need to be taken into consideration. Some may find an issue with the comfort, in that the padded cushions on the sofas are a little on the thin side. Ask yourself though, would you really want or need heavy thick cushions outdoors, with all that the weather can throw at them?
The fact that the material of the furniture itself is polyester and PVC means that it will be robust and easy to clean. Also, it can withstand average rainfalls. This makes it hassle-free maintenance, which is what outdoor furniture is all about, relaxation. It does not look like plastic, it looks like rattan style.
When the cushions start to fade too much, you may want to invest in new Sunbrella cushions, and you can bring your Modenzi sofa back to life at that point.

There are some negative comments on these furniture modules. Yet, most of these problems can be overcome with a little ingenuity, such as:

- Lightweight and blowing away – the keyword here is “lightweight,” meaning that they are easy to move around. Put the chairs near a wall for shelter, if wind is expected and you don’t have storage space. Use a weather cover to make the set more compact and protect it from damage.

Though your set is not under warranty, they may help you out. As I said in the main document, the cushions aren’t the best, and they fade pretty quickly when exposed to prolonged sunlight.
It may be worth re-covering with Sunbrella fabric when you’re ready to do so.
