Runner Up: Best Polywood Adirondack Rocking Chairs
With a more limited color selection and slightly more classic design, the Polywood Classic Adirondack Rocking Chair line is an excellent choice for those who are looking for a more traditional Adirondack Rocker. These chairs are quite nice, comfortable, and built with the same quality materials that the South Beach line is built of, but are a little less exuberant in their design.
Think the Adirondacks, as opposed to South Beach, basically. Not necessarily a bad thing!

Poly-Wood Adirondack Rocking Chair Reviews
In this section, we look closely at several different chairs, and compare and contrast their feature and benefits.
Polywood South Beach Rocker
The South Beach rocker line of Adirondack Rocking Chairs, by Polywood, leans toward the modern, fun, stylish Adirondack rocking chair design, as opposed to the classic stained wood look that is commonly featured by other manufacturers, and by other lines by Polywood itself.
The South Beach has relatively straight lines and a simple, non-fussy design which resonates very much with us. Plus the colors are excellent!

The Details
The South Beach Rocker shines by offering a wide array of color options. With 11 colors and finishes to choose from, you can decide to go as expressive as you want with your Adirondack rocking chair. There are, of course, the classic Mahogany, White, etc. colors, but Polywood also included several fun and interesting colors such as Sunset Red and Lime.
Materials
Like all of Polywood’s Adirondack chairs, the South Beach line is made of HDPE recycled plastic lumber — essentially milk bottles melted down and formed into outdoor furniture!
HDPE is one of the highest quality materials available, and will not rot, crack, fade, or otherwise get damaged in the outdoors. While we still suggest covering these chairs to keep dirt and grime off of them, these chairs can handle rain and even snow without much difficulty.
The fasteners are made of commercial grade stainless steel, and should not rust even in a beachfront environment.
Comfort
Adirondack chairs are famous for their comfort, and these Adirondack rockers are no exception. The back is slightly contoured, and the arms are wide and chunky — easy to set a gin and tonic upon.
The fact that these can rock makes them a bit more advantageous than a typical fixed Adirondack chair. The rocking motion works well on these chairs, and they are balanced nicely.
Assembly
Some assembly of the South Beach Polywood Adirondack Rocking Chairs is required. Essentially all you need to do is screw in a few fasteners and you’re good to go.
One suggestion to make assembly easier on these chairs: start all the bolts across the chair, then go back and do another round and tighten them all completely. If you skip this step and tighten completely from the get-go, you may find that the holes aren’t lining up as you get further on in the assembly process.
It can frequently be helpful to take a look at the assembly instructions before purchase, so you can see what you’ll be getting into when the furniture arrives. Click here [pdf] to take a look at the South Beach Rocker assembly instructions.
The Bottom Line
\Polywood makes outstanding outdoor furniture that is designed to look great and last forever. With a 20 year warranty, and the Made in the USA label, what’s not to love? The South Beach chair is exceptionally comfortable, stylish, and available in some fantastic colors. These chairs are highly recommended!

Polywood Classic Adirondack Rocking Chair
The Polywood Classic Adirondack Rocking Chair aims for the traditional Adirondack chair look and comes in a greatly constrained color selection compared to their South Beach line. The colors of the classic are designed mostly to mimic stained wood or simple paint colors like White and Green that were traditionally used as Adirondack chair colors.
Basic Specs
- Constructed of HDPE Recycled Plastic Wood
- Maintenance Free
- Commercial-Grade Stainless Steel Fasteners
- Won’t splinter, warp, fade, or rot
- Made in the USA
- 20 Year Limited Warranty
Dimensions
- Width: 28.5″
- Depth: 35″
- Height: 41″
- Seat Height: 17.25″
- Weight: 40 lbs
The Details
The Classic line of Polywood Adirondack Rockers is an elegant choice and is great for those who aren’t looking for exciting colors, but rather who prefer their Adirondack chairs with traditional stains and simple paint colors. These chairs have the color impregnated throughout the HDPE lumber and do not need to be painted or re-stained throughout their lives.
Materials
Like all of Polywood’s products, the Classic line of Adirondack chairs is made with HDPE plastic lumber. This material is one of the highest quality outdoor materials available and is designed to last outdoors for years without maintenance. It is rot free, fade-resistant, and won’t crack, split, or check. While we still encourage users to cover these chairs when not in use to keep dirt and pollen away, these chairs can be left out in the rain, and even in the snow, without damage.
The white chair especially shows dirt and can need frequent cleaning. While cleaning is not difficult, frequent cleaning can be aggravating, and we encourage people to be sure to cover their light colored chairs, or otherwise be prepared for frequent scrub-downs.
The hardware and fasteners are made of Marine grade stainless steel and are rust-proof and strong. They should even be able to handle a salty beach-front environment!
Comfort
The Classic Adirondack Rocker is wider and deeper than the South Beach chair, though the back does not feature the same contour that the South Beach chair offers. For those on the tall side, the high back of these chairs may bring additional comfort compared to many of the other Adirondack rockers on our list.
That said, some may want to add a cushion to these chairs to increase the seat comfort. These do not require cushions, but they can soften the angles and make them a bit more comfortable for long-term use.
Assembly
The assembly of the Classic Adirondack Chair by Polywood is not difficult and consists essentially of screwing in a few bolts. As with all poly wood furniture, we suggest you “start” each of the screws, and then go back through and tighten them all completely. That way you can be sure the holes line up properly, and you won’t have headaches going back and redoing it, or otherwise needing to drill new holes to get screws to line up.
The Bottom Line
The Classic Adirondack Rocker is a great choice for many consumers, and these chairs will probably outlive us all! They are extremely well made, easy to put together, covered under an outstanding warranty, and made in the USA. While we like the colors and style of the South Beach collection better than the Classic collection, if you see a color you like in the Classic, you won’t regret purchasing it!

Hanover Outdoor Furniture HVLNR10WH All Weather Contoured Adirondack Rocking Chair
The Hanover Outdoor Contoured Adirondack Rocking Chair comes in two colors: white and light blue. It is priced significantly below Polywood while using similar materials and construction. If you are looking for a white or light blue chair, the Hanover Furniture line of Adirondack Rockers may be for you!
Basic Specs
- Constructed of HDPE Recycled Plastic Wood
- Maintenance Free
- Commercial-Grade Stainless Steel Fasteners
- Won’t splinter, warp, fade, or rot
- Made in the USA
- 20 Year Limited Warranty
Dimensions
- Width: 29.75″
- Depth: 34.75″
- Height: 37.75″
- Seat Height: 16.75″
- Weight: 40 lbs
The Details
The color selection on the Hanover Outdoor Furniture line is definitely lacking compared to the other units on our list, but we like their classic white, and their Aruba blue chair colors quite a bit. Hanover Furniture makes eco-friendly outdoor furniture products, and while they haven’t been around for a long time, are creating some interesting furniture pieces.
Materials
Like all of the chairs on our list today, these are made with high quality HDPE lumber. This material is one of the strongest and most desirable outdoor materials around. It is virtually maintenance-free and can be left outside during most of the year. We still suggest keeping a cover on these chairs when not in use, as they will show dirt and pollen easily.
HDPE won’t rot, flake, peel, crack, or fade, and is famous for its resilience in the outdoor environment. For this reason, it is commonly used on the exterior of houses as decking and trim.
Comfort
The Hanover Outdoor Furniture Adirondack Rockers are comfortable and feature a slight contour to the back which helps make sitting for long periods pleasant. The back height is a little bit lower than some of the other chairs on the list, and those who are tall may find that these chairs aren’t as comfortable as some of the taller chairs are.
The seats are quite wide and spacious, though.
Assembly
Assembly of the Hanover Outdoor Furniture Rocker is not terribly difficult and can be accomplished in about 30 minutes. If you’d like to take a look at the assembly instructions prior to purchase so you’ll know what you’re getting into, click here to view the instructions [pdf].
When assembling HDPE furniture, it can be much easier to “start’ each of the bolts, and then go and do another round of tightening, as opposed to tightening them all from the start. By doing it this way, you can be sure all the holes will line up and you won’t have to worry about re-drilling anything.
The Bottom Line
While Hanover Outdoor Furniture doesn’t have the name brand that Trex or Polywood has, Hanover offers a similar 20-year warranty, and is also Made in the USA! If the brand isn’t incredibly important to you, and you are looking for either a white or blue Adirondack rocker, these chairs are quite nice, comfortable, and stylish. They are similar in quality to the name brand chairs on our list, and hit a great price point!

CR Plastic Generations Recycled Plastic Adirondack Rocking Chair
CR Plastic is not the ideal name for a furniture company, but their Generations line of Adirondack Rocking Chairs is nice, and has a great selection of colors, with 16 to choose from.
These chairs are solid, with by far the greatest weight of any of the chairs on our list. The CR Plastic Generations line uses 7/8″ HDPE lumber in their chairs, making them a bit beefier than the rest of the pack.
Basic Specs
- Constructed of HDPE Recycled Plastic Wood
- Maintenance Free
- Commercial-Grade Stainless Steel Fasteners
- Won’t splinter, warp, fade, or rot
- Made in the USA
- 10 Year Limited Warranty
Dimensions
- Width: 24″
- Depth: 34″
- Height: 40″
- Seat Height: 17″
- Weight: 66 lbs
The Details
While HDPE lumber has become one of the most desired materials for outdoor furniture available, we get the sense that most people don’t want to be reminded that the material is actually plastic, as opposed to wood. Most manufacturers refer to the material as Poly-Wood, or HDPE lumber, or something similar, as opposed to coming out and saying “it’s plastic, but it looks like wood and is awesome!”
CR Plastic bucks this trend, and waves the plastic flag high.
Materials
The CR Plastics Generations chairs have the thickest lumber of any of the chairs we have reviewed today, and the overall weight of these chairs clocks in at 66 lbs, as opposed to the +/- 40 lbs that several of the other chairs weigh. The added weight and hefty 7/8″ thick lumber make these Adirondack chairs feel incredibly solid, but they are so heavy that some people may find them difficult to move and position.
For those who are getting on in years, or who don’t want to have to move really heavy furniture around, these may not be a great choice, but if you like chunky, sturdy furniture, the CR Plastics chairs are a great choice.
Comfort
The seats on these chairs are sloped a bit more than many of the other chairs on our list, and getting in and out of the Generations Adirondack Rocker may be difficult for some people. However, once you’re in the chair, it is quite comfortable, and the rocking motion is excellent.
A cushion for the seat, and perhaps a lumbar pillow, would be helpful in these chairs to help counter the deep slope of the chair. Many will find these chairs quite comfortable as is, but if you have a hard time getting in and out of chairs, these will be difficult for you to maneuver.
Assembly
Assembly of the CR Plastics Adirondack Rocker is a bit more involved than some of the other chairs on our list, though it’s not difficult and can be done in about an hour. You’ll be screwing in about 38 screws, so make sure you have a power drill on hand.
Like all poly wood furniture, we suggest you get each screw started, and then go back and tighten each to finish. This way all of the holes will be lined up properly, and you won’t have to worry about drilling holes to make sure the screws are positioned correctly.
If you want to take a look at the assembly instructions, you can view them here [pdf]. Given the weight of these chairs, you probably want to assemble them in approximately the location where they will live. Moving 66lb chairs around isn’t fun, so plan accordingly!
The Bottom Line
We quite like the CR Plastics Generations line of Adirondack Rocking Chairs. They are the most solid chairs on our list and are extremely well made. For a similar price to the more common brand names, CR Plastics offers a thicker, sturdier chair made with excellent quality materials.
This extra weight may not be to everyone’s taste, but it is a nice feature.
CR Plastics makes their furniture in the USA, which is great and offers a 10-year warranty on their furniture, which is good, though only half the length of most competitors.
- Sustainable product made of up to 100% recycled plastics
- Worry free maintenance. Guaranteed to never rot, crack or splinter
- Made for outdoor living. Heavy, durable and weatherproof
- 36 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty
- Ultimate in comfort and design. 7/8 " thick lumber

Polywood Seashell Rocker
The Polywood Seashell Rocker has a fan-like back design, which is attractive and comfortable, but comes in a limited color selection, similar to the Polywood Classic collection.
The Seashell Rocker is wider than Polywood’s other lines of Adirondack Rocking Chairs, and is also quite a bit heavier than the rest. These chairs also tend to be more expensive than the rest of Polywood’s Adirondacks, as well!
Basic Specs
- Contoured Back
- Constructed of HDPE Recycled Plastic Wood
- Maintenance Free
- Commercial-Grade Stainless Steel Fasteners
- Won’t splinter, warp, fade, or rot
- Made in the USA
- 20 Year Limited Warranty
Dimensions
- Width: 31.25″
- Depth: 33.75″
- Height: 37.4″
- Seat Height: 16″
- Weight Capacity: 250lbs
- Weight: 59lbs
The Details
The backs on the Seashell line of chairs are nicely contoured for comfort, and the chair width is excellent. They are extremely comfortable and elegant. The color array is more traditional than Polywood’s South Beach collection, hewing more toward the standard wood stain colors. The colors are fine, though we definitely like the South Beach collection’s offerings better.
The Seashell line of chairs is quite hefty, weighing 59lbs: almost as much as the CR Plastics Generations line of Adirondack Chairs. The extra weight makes these chairs feel quite solid, but may be a nuisance to those who want to frequently move their chairs around the patio or garden area. At almost 60 lbs, these pieces are heavy!
Materials
Like all of Polywood’s chairs, these units are made of recycled HDPE plastic lumber, molded to look like wood. HDPE is one of the highest performance materials for outdoor use, and is commonly found in high end outdoor furniture, and on the outside of buildings as decking and trim. HDPE won’t rot, flex, fade, crack, splinter, or peel. The color is throughout the material, so it cannot fade.
There is essentially no maintenance to these chairs, other than cleaning. We suggest keeping them covered when not in use so as to limit pollen and dirt built up, but otherwise they can be left outside in the elements: sun, rain, even snow and ice.
The fasteners on these chairs are made of stainless steel with a Xylan coating for added protection.
Comfort
These Adirondack rockers are quite comfortable, and are spacious and roomy. The contoured back helps, though you may still want to pick up some pillows or cushions if you plan on using the chair for several hours at a time.
Assembly
Assembly of these chairs is not difficult, and can be accomplished in about 30 minutes. We suggest getting these chairs approximately in the position you’ll be using them in before you assemble — you’re not going to want to drag them around much once they’re built!
Like all poly wood funriture, get each screw in place and started before you go do a second round and tighten everything fully. This way you can be confident that all the holes are lined up properly and you won’t have to re-drill anything.
Reviewing the assembly instructions prior to purchase can be helpful in informing how difficult assembly will be. To view the assembly instructions, please click here [pdf].
The Bottom Line
The Seashell line of Polywood Adirondack Rocking Chairs is a very nice, high quality chair line. Like all of Polywood’s furniture, it is made in the USA and is covered under a great warranty. That said, it is significantly more expensive than most of the other chairs on this list, and in our opinion is not worth the price for these. The color selection is fine, but is nothing to sing about, and the chairs are clearly well made. But so are all of the other Polywood chairs for several hundred dollars less!
