Simpson Cleaning makes some of the finest gas-powered pressure washers on the market. They have a wide product line that covers most use cases, from homeowners to commercial users, and when your livelihood depends on a pressure washer that just works, you want to be sure you get the right model for your needs.
In this article, we do five Simpson Pressure Washer Reviews to help you get a handle on Simpson Cleaning’s product line, and to help you find the perfect pressure washer for your needs.
We’ll start with a general overview of Simpson Cleaning and some important tips to consider when shopping for a pressure washer. We’ll then move into Simpson’s product line, starting with a comparison table to get oriented. Then we’ll do full reviews of five of Simpson’s products, and finish up with our conclusions.
Simpson Pressure Washer Buyer’s Tips
When shopping for a pressure washer, there are a few important details to consider. If you haven’t decided on a Simpson model in particular, be sure to check out our Pressure Washer Buying Guide. If you’ve zoomed in on Simpson’s product line, read on!
Gas Vs. Electric Pressure Washers
Virtually all of Simpson’s popular pressure washers are gas models. Gas pressure washers almost always have a higher max PSI rate than electric pressure washers do, and are capable of cleaning more without needing to deal with extension cords, circuit breaker pops, and the like.
Of course, you have to deal with gas and oil and starting the gas engine, which is a bit of a pain.
If you’re a homeowner who only anticipates using the pressure washer once or twice a year, you may want to opt for an electric model like the Sun Joe SPX3000 Electric Pressure Washer.
If you plan on using your pressure washer pretty regularly or are a commercial user, then a gas pressure washer will clean more dirt in less time.
Simpson Engine Selection
Simpson makes the engines on some of their models (or at least brands the engines under their name), but as the prices go up, the engines become outsourced to name brands like Kohler and Honda. Everyone knows the durability and reliability of a Honda engine, and if you want your pressure washer to run every time, then it’s almost certainly best to stick with one of the Honda-powered washers on the list.
Honda GC vs GX Engine Line
There are differences even among the Honda engine line in the Simpson pressure washers. Some of the Simpson washers are made with the Honda GC line of engines, and these are generally considered residential power (and correspondingly, lower cost).
The GX line of engines is considered commercial quality and is more appropriate for those who plan to be using their pressure washer on a daily basis.
The GC engines have aluminum bores, vs. the cast iron of the GX series. The GX also has a low-oil automatic shut off switch. And in general, the GC series has a good deal more plastic in the construction, while the GX series is mostly made of metal.
Pressure Washer PSI
The PSI rating of the pressure washer is almost always the first number given in the product description, though it’s not the only specification buyers should consider. The higher the PSI, the more powerful the machine. Higher PSI equals a strong spray coming out of the nozzle.
You can always use a higher PSI machine on a lower power setting, but if you’re maxing out your PSI and still not cleaning, then you need a more powerful machine. But remember, if your PSI is too high for the material you’re cleaning, you can strip the finish right off the material, which isn’t helping anything! Once you’ve got the appropriate PSI setting for your material, you need to adjust the GPM flow to maximize cleaning efficiency.
Pressure Washer GPM Flow
The Gallons Per Minute (GPM) spec is also an important number to pay attention to when considering a pressure washer. Once you’ve got the right PSI setting, you need to consider the water flow rate, and how it impacts cleaning. The higher the GPM flow rate, the more quickly water will flow through the nozzle at a given pressure. More water equals more cleaning, and the higher the GPM flow rate, the quicker you’ll be able to clean.
Putting it Together
Let’s say you find that a PSI setting of 1800 is the right power level to clean your wood deck. To maximize your cleaning efficiency, you’ll want to adjust your GPM flow up as much as possible, while keeping the PSI at the appropriate level.
But if you need 2,600 PSI to clean some wood siding, and your pressure washer only goes up to 2,000 PSI, you won’t be able to efficiently clean the siding, no matter the settings.
Pressure Washer Nozzle Selection
All pressure washers come with a variety of interchangeable nozzles with different degree ratings. To use these nozzles, you place the nozzle at the end of the pressure washer, and the nozzle restricts the flow to the pattern you desire. Most pressure washers also have a “soap” nozzle used for applying specially-formulated pressure-washer soaps.
The nozzles come in various degree settings, often with degree numbers like 0′, 15′, 25′, and 40′. The zero degree nozzle is a single point, while the 40′ nozzle is a fairly wide pie-shaped spray.
Soap Nozzle
Most pressure washers have an optional soap dispenser, and a soap-dispensing nozzle. This should always be used if you’re applying soap. High-pressure nozzles won’t draw soap into the system, so you’ll need to use the soap nozzle in these circumstances.
Pressure Washer Control and Safety
If you don’t know how to use a pressure washer and you just crank it up and dive right in, you can cause some significant damage. Applying too much pressure to a material can strip the finish off of the material and/or damage the integrity of the material. You should always start on the low side and crank the PSI level up until you find the appropriate level.
Zero Degree Nozzles and Safety
If you’re not careful, you can cause bodily harm with a pressure washer pointed at a person, especially when using the dangerous zero-degree nozzle. The zero-degree nozzle (typically the red-colored nozzle) is the tightest spray setting and sprays water out in a line. It can act like a knife and can cut through human skin when set and used improperly.
You don’t want to accidentally spray this on your foot, in your eyes, or on your hands. This is no joke.
Users should employ extreme care when working with a pressure washer with a zero-degree nozzle on it, and Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend any washers with zero degree nozzles.
We think that’s not particularly helpful, as it limits the pressure washer selection. Most of Simpson’s line includes zero-degree nozzles. We strongly suggest you simply put these nozzles aside unless you really understand how a pressure washer works and fully understand the safety implications of working with the zero-degree nozzle.
Treat a zero degree nozzle as you would a nail gun or similar potentially dangerous, but useful, power tool.
Simpson Pressure Washer Accessories
Pressure Washer Soap
You can only use soap designed for use with pressure washers. Never use standard bleaches and detergents in a pressure washer; only use specifically-designed soaps. There are many soaps available, some focused around cleaning specific materials like vinyl siding, wood, or car exteriors. You can shop for a specific soap for a specific task, or stick to a generic soap like this Briggs & Stratton soap.

1. Clean Machine by Simpson 60972 2400 PSI at 2.0 GPM Pressure Washer
Key Points at a Glance
- Power Rating: 2400 PSI
- Max Flow Rate: 2.0 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
- 1/4” x 25’ Morflex Hose
- 6” wheels
- 3 nozzle tips
- Steel frame and axle
- 149cc Simpson OHV engine
- On-board soap tank
Dimensions
- Dimensions: 15 x 12 x 31 inches
- Weight: 38 lbs.
The Details
The Clean Machine 60972 is a solid Simpson product with 2400 PSI and a 2.0 GPM flow. It is a fairly small gas-powered pressure washer and should be considered slightly more powerful than typical electric pressure washers that max out at around 2,000 PSI. But of course, it’s a bit more cumbersome than an electric pressure washer.
The Simpson 60972 is definitely not for regular commercial use and is one of the smaller gas-powered pressure washers available. That said, it works quite well if its power needs are what you’re looking for, and it’s available at a pretty solid price point.
Even though the max-PSI and flow rate are lower than some of the other Simpson products will be looking at on this list, the Clean Machine provides a good balance of features and costs.
As it is more in line with an electric pressure washer in terms of power and scale, this model keeps the overall size and weight down. It’s easily maneuverable at 38 lbs, has 6” never-flat wheels, and the handle folds down to give a lower profile for storage.
Users typically find it to be quite adequate for rather demanding home applications, although the general consensus is that the PSI and flow rate are not enough for regular commercial use.
If you are looking for a strong unit that can definitely handle cleaning typical home areas like decks and patios, the Clean Machine will perform quite well. Unlike some other Simpson machines reviewed, it has an onboard dispenser tank for soap and other cleaners. For lots of quick, intense clean-ups around the home, the Clean Machine does quite well.
Nozzles include the most intense 0°, 25°, and Soap. As mentioned in the Buyer’s Tips section, please be very careful with the 0° nozzle.
The onboard soap dispenser provides the user with a degree of portability that is not available in the larger units. It has a separate suction hose that must be used with a container on the ground.
Indeed, the fact that the Clean Machine is largely self-contained and powered by gas makes it a great choice for homeowners with a lot of property, medium cleaning needs, and a need for getting through these tasks quickly.
The Bottom Line
Most buyers have few problems with this unit, and it generally meets expectations. Just understand that this model is pretty low powered, as gas units go, and the packaging may give some problems with damage in the product upon receipt, so be sure to open it immediately and ensure that nothing got broken in shipping.
The Clean Machine delivers what it promises – multiple applications around the home, and offers an attractive price point.

2. Simpson MS60763-S 3100 PSI at 2.4GPM Gas Pressure Washer
Key Points at a Glance
- Max Power: 3100 PSI
- Max Flow Rate: 2.4 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
- 5/16” x 25’ Kink-Proof Hose
- 12” never-flat wheels
- 5 nozzle tips
- Steel frame and axle
- Kohler RH265 Engine
- Warranty: 2/1/5 year warranty on Engine/Pump/Frame
Dimensions
- Dimensions: 33 x 18 x 23 inches
- Weight: 63 lbs
The Details
Powerful and full of the features buyers want, the Simpson 60763-S is a great choice for homeowners, though not for professionals. It’s positioned at a solid price point and has a fantastic feature set.
This pressure washer maxes out at 3,100 PSI with a 2.4 GPM flow rate. This is generally powerful enough to clean most of the surfaces commonly encountered by homeowners. It is powered by a Kohler engine, which works well, though is a step down from the Honda engines in the more expensive models.
Included in the package are 5 nozzles: 0°, 15°, 25°, 40° and Soap. As always, be extremely careful when working with the 0° nozzle, and don’t use it until you’re quite familiar with the pressure washer.
The 60763-S has the capacity to tackle high-intensity cleaning and cover wider areas with ease. If your home has a lot of exterior cleaning to tackle through the seasons, you’ll be able to blast mud off vehicles, clean stained decks, and complete just about any cleaning job more quickly.
One feature that stands out for this model is the large, never-flat wheels. They’re 12”, and allow the machine to be trundled easily over all kinds of terrain with no worries about losing tire pressure or getting stuck.
Buyers love the sturdiness and overall maneuverability of the 60763, as well as its ability to power through projects like paint stripping on exteriors.
The machine operates the soap function by dropping the suction hose into the cleaning solution from a separate container – not quite as handy as an onboard tank, but a minor detail.
Overall, the Kohler RH265 motor performs well and causes few problems with reliability and maintenance. Users find that it starts reliably on the first pull. A minor design issue was noted with the placement of the exhaust – it is positioned close to the frame and can cause a burn if the operator is not careful.
The wand, hose, and accessories all store on the handle, including the standard length kink-and-mar-resistant 25’ hose.
The frame is sturdy powder-coated steel, and unlike some of the other models, seems to have adequate protection while being shipped – with luck, your model will arrive undamaged!
The Bottom Line
The Simpson 60763-S is a great choice for homeowners looking for a balance of power, convenience, and cost. It’s likely not appropriate for regular commercial work, but is perfect for residential users.

3. Simpson Cleaning MegaShot MSH3125-S 3200 PSI at 2.5 GPM Gas Pressure Washer
Key Points at a Glance
- Max PSI output: 3200 PSI
- Max Flow Rate: 2.5 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
- 1/4” x 25’ Morflex Hose
- 10” pneumatic wheels
- 5 nozzle tips
- Steel frame and axle
- Honda GC190 Engine
- Warranty: 2/1/5 year warranty on Engine/Pump/Frame
Dimensions
- Dimensions: 35 x 21 x 23 inches
- Weight: 65 lbs.
The Details
The Simpson MegaShot MSH3125-S Pressure Washer has very similar specs to the 60763-S above. It maxes out at 3,200 PSI of power, and offers a 2.5 GPM flow rate. The big difference between the two units are the Honda GS 190 engine on this unit, which is a step up in terms of brand name from the Kohler engine on the 6073-S above.
However, the power output is similar, the warranty the same, and ultimately the price on this one is significantly higher than on the 60673-S. You’ll need to decide if the Honda name is worth the extra coin!
The Honda GC 190 engine is a very nice engine, though it is still a “residential grade” Honda engine with a significant number of plastic parts.
Overall, it can give the extra power you need for some cleaning projects, but otherwise offers little in the way of extra bells and whistles.
Simpson pressure washers in this general range will offer a solid amount of cleaning ability and a wider range of nozzle choices. The Mega Shot gives a strong 3200 PSI, which is more than adequate for some really grungy work.
There is an off-board soap system that uses a suction hose, similar to the other models reviewed so far. This unit comes equipped with 5 nozzles that offer a range from 0°, 15°, 25°, and 40°, as well as the soap applicator. As always, apply extreme caution when working with the 0° nozzle.
This sort of power will allow the purchaser to tackle jobs such as floors, prepping exterior surfaces for paint, and siding.
The Bottom Line
Most buyers find that the MegaShot MSH3125-S does a fine job on a variety of exterior items, and runs relatively quietly on its Honda GC190 engine. It starts easily and navigates rough terrain with 10” pneumatic wheels and a steel frame. It’s frequently cited as easy to use.
The big question is if the Honda name is worth the additional cost for you, especially given the GC190’s residential quality build.

4. SIMPSON Cleaning PS3228-S 3300 PSI at 2.5 GPM Gas Pressure Washer
Key Points at a Glance
- Max PSI: 3300 PSI
- Mas Flow Rate: 2.5 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
- 5/16” x 25’ Kink-Proof Hose
- 10” pneumatic wheels
- 5 nozzle tips
- Steel frame and axle
- Honda GX200 Engine
- Warranty: 3/5/10 year warranty on Engine/Pump/Frame
Dimensions
- Dimensions: 34 x 21 x 24 inches
- Weight: 83 lbs.
The Details
Powerful and strong, with a moderate PSI and flow rate paired with a powerful and reliable Honda GX Commercial-Grade engine, the Simpson PS3228-S is a great choice for those commercial users who are looking for a medium-duty pressure washer that they can use day in-day out for typical cleaning.
Most users find that that this unit can clean everything from stained concrete to exterior log walls at their homes. It’s also powerful enough to use for commercial applications – at 3300 PSI, it’s not fooling around. That said, in terms of power it’s in the range of the previous two Simpson pressure washers rated for residential use.
This unit costs significantly more than the previous pressure washers on our list, primarily due to the inclusion of the Honda GX200 engine. This is a commercial-grade engine, and is made mostly of metal, unlike the previous engines we’ve seen that have a significant amount of plastic in them.
What you get in this sort of package are design tweaks that are made to help users get the job done faster, with less effort. You’ll see this in the more ergonomic spray gun design and the 4-ply, 10” wheels.
This washer also has a heavier steel frame and axle than some of the lower-priced models, includes a kink-proof hose, and on-board storage for the 25-foot hose line.
There are 5 included nozzles: 0°, 15°, 25°, 40° and Soap. The soap dispensing function is utilized by dropping the suction hose into the container of cleaning solution that you supply – it’s not included on-board. As always, even professional users should be cautious when working with 0° nozzles at high pressures.
The Honda GX200 engine is well regarded, and is covered under a 3-year warranty as opposed to the 2-year warranty the other engines are covered under. That said, some have had some complaints with reliability, even still.
It’s the same story with the AAA triplex plunger pumps that are paired with these engines. Some users have experienced failure almost right out of the box. The most common complaint is with the actual packaging – several reviewers dinged this model for its poor packing – often leading to dents and other problems.
We hope that Simpson improves their packaging to ensure that these units arrive on site intact!
The Bottom Line
All in all, buyers have found that this machine is a workhorse. Once it’s up and running, it is powerful enough for whatever most users demanded. If you’re a commercial user who will be using this washer for moderate-duty work on a regular basis, this is a great choice.
The price on this unit is a step up, and the Honda GX-series engine is a step up as well. The packaging could be better, and users should ensure there was no damage upon receipt. The additional warranty protection is a nice extra, and makes up for some of the additional cost of this unit relative to the other units on our list.

The Details
With a powerful max PSI of 4,200 PSI and a 4 gallon per minute flow rate, the ALH 4240 offers industrial strength cleaning and efficiency – at a price. For commercial users who want to be able to rapidly clean, strip, and work materials reliably day in, day out, this is an ideal pressure washer. For homeowners who will be using it occasionally for typical tasks, it’s almost certainly overkill.
The major steps up with this unit are the high max PSI and flow rate, as well as the powerful Honda GX390 engine that is the core of it all. If you make your money by cleaning and stripping quickly, this is a great choice for professionals. Of course, it comes with a high price!
Extra features on this model include 50’ of hose, an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, and 13” pneumatic tires. The 4240 is like upgrading from a standard pickup truck to a dually – there’s more of everything. It’s tough, has that big Honda GX390 engine, and can actually blast graffiti off walls and perform professional style cleaning.
It also weighs in at 134 lbs, and the price reflects all those heavy-duty enhancements.
Buyers almost universally praise this pressure washer. That said, if you’re not a commercial user, you may not find it necessary to pay the high cost of this unit, as the mid-grade units will do an adequate job on most residential and light-commercial projects.
As you would expect from a professional-style machine, the 4240 has 5 nozzle tips: 0°, 15°, 25°, 40°, and soap applicator nozzle. The soap applicator is used with a separate container for cleaning solution. As always, even professional users should be cautious with the 0° nozzle, especially when operating at a high PSI!
All the attachments and hose store on the frame.
The Bottom Line
Buyer’s love the durability, power, and range of this machine. It is a titan, and will clean the copper out of a penny. Once again, however, the Simpson packaging is a concern. Be sure to check this washer for any shipping damage as soon as you unpack it.

Conclusion
Simpson’s line of pressure washers are all extremely high quality, are backed by solid warranties, and have models to hit any use case for a gas pressure washer.
As mentioned above, if you don’t need much power and are only going to use your pressure washer sparingly, you may want to check out an electric model, but if you want gas, one of the Simpson Cleaning washers will be perfect for you.
Generally, homeowners who are looking for a fairly powerful cleaning option should look primarily at the MS60763-S. Its PSI and Flow Rate are Good, the Kohler engine is fine, and its price point is great.
For those who are working commercially and will be using their washer every day, aim for the PS-3228-S for medium-duty work, and jump right to the powerful ALH-4240 if you need a titan.
Good luck, stay safe, and bring the clean!
