The Details
The Stanwood Lucky 8 Wind Spinner CWS-06 is a high-end wind sculpture with great craftsmanship and detailed finishing. The head spins rapidly even in the slightest breeze, resulting in a beautiful kinetic garden sculpture that draws attention to itself, and its surroundings. The effect of the motion is both calming and energizing, and the movement is mesmerizing.
Forged out of high-end copper/brass alloy, the Stanwood Lucky 8 Wind Spinner is definitely a treat for the eyes. We should note that the shine wears off with time, and needs to be maintained with the help of spray coating if buyers want to keep the original copper finish intact.
Aesthetics
In terms of aesthetic value, this wind sculpture stands among the prettiest of them all. It’s hard to look away from it while it dances away in the sunlight.
Moreover, the spinning head is shaped in a double helical pattern, creating a visionary illusion. This feature adds into the overall beauty of the sculpture.
These work really great when complemented by a wind chime at producing a soothing, calming garden space.
Stanwood consistently makes outstanding kinetic garden sculptures, and the Lucky 8 Twirler is one of our favorites. If you’re looking for complimentary options, or perhaps a different Stanwood sculpture, we also quite like the pinwheel-style Stanwood Willow Leaf Kinetic Sculpture.
Functionality
The functionality of the Stanwood Lucky 8 Wind Spinner is quite simple. It contains stainless steel ball bearings that are located both at the top of the spinner and at the bottom, inside the brass structure. This allows the head to spin in a 360 motion even with the slightest force.
The result is a breathtaking kinetic sculpture in a double helix pattern.
Material and Build Quality
The material that is used in the sculpture’s structure is pure copper and brass. The mixture of copper and brass make the frame sturdy and durable while maintaining its beauty and shine. Since it is quite tough, this sculpture is able to withstand the toughest of all weather conditions.
We do suggest bringing the head in during, say, a hurricane, though.
The build quality is also quite admirable. Through a single first-look, one can figure out that this sculpture is indeed a product of great skill. This is primarily due to its perfect detailing and finishing. Stanwood backs up its build quality with a lifetime warranty, which is a great feature as well!
In fact, the biggest concern we have with this wind sculpture is that it may be a tempting target for thieves! The fact that it draws the eye, and it is made of copper, makes it a potential target for theft if left in the front yard, unattended.
If you’re concerned about theft, we suggest leaving it in the backyard or in an area that is relatively secure or perhaps pouring concrete around the base, which would somewhat deter thieves. Though thieves could still simply remove the head and leave the post. They may not think of that, though.
Assembly
Even though the assembly instructions might seem a little difficult to carry out, the overall procedure is quite simple. Essentially, buyers must first install the post and post supports, and then assemble the head and place it on the post.
Tools Required
- Rubber Mallet

Pole Anchoring Instructions
Installing the pole on a Stanwood Wind Sculpture correctly is key to supporting the whole sculpture. Stanwood generally uses a 4-point security system, which is quite effective. The basic steps are as follows:
1. Take a rubber mallet, and hammer the major ground pole into the soft ground. Make sure that the pole is well shoved into the ground, so as to make the black mark come in line with the ground.
2. Slide the support stake onto the major ground pole, and hammer it into the ground.
3. Slide in another stake, making an angle of 120 degrees with the first stake. Then, hammer it into the ground.
4. Slide the last stake in the pole, and hammer it down once it is set right in between the other two stakes.
5. Take the support pole and the ‘towards ground’ labeled end onto the major ground pole’s end. Make sure to not to screw in the ‘towards sky’’ labeled end, in order to avoid damage.
To install the twirlers on the Lucky 8, a series of repetitive, but simple, steps are required. They must be performed in the correct sequence or the helix shape will not form.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Because the wheels are well apart from each other, dust can easily be cleaned off using a cloth. However, the overall shine of the sculpture will get that green, dull copper patina as the sculpture ages naturally. Buyers can choose to let the sculpture weather or to preserve the shine.
We prefer the shine — the way the light reacts to the movement is part of what makes this unit great!
If buyers want to keep the sculpture shiny, a yearly coat of clear coat lacquer spray [Amazon Link] is suggested.
The sculpture comes untreated in the box, so be sure to spray it before you assemble, should you want to keep the finish intact.
Stanwood Lucky 8 Twirler – The Bottom Line
With outstanding beauty, a clever design, high-quality materials, and a lifetime warranty, the Stanwood Lucky 8 Twirler Kinetic Wind Sculpture is a great choice for buyers looking for a breathtaking garden or patio sculpture. It is fairly easy to assemble, delightful to look at, and built to last.
While this unit is certainly not cheap, the price is certainly justified by the quality of the design and materials chosen. If you’re searching for a beautiful, hypnotic garden accessory, it’s hard to beat the Stanwood Lucky 8 wind spinner.
