Wind sculptures can make a delightful statement in the garden or yard. The kinetic motion is hypnotic, calming, and fascinating. Completely powered by nature, these quiet sculptural elements can bring wonder and majesty to an outdoor space. One of our favorite Kinetic Wind Spinner pieces is the Stanwood Dancing Willow Leaves Wind Sculpture [Amazon Link].
Made out of a pure copper and brass alloy, this wind sculpture is an extremely popular choice among gardeners. The dual spinning design causes the two wheels to spin in opposite directions, creating a delightful effect. This helped it earn high marks in our recent rankings of the best kinetic wind spinners.
It has a beautiful copper finish that can be preserved in its shiny original look or left to wear and whether to the beautiful green patina of weathered copper. Either way, it’s sure to look fantastic in the garden!

The Details
The Stanwood Wind Sculpture is an excellent choice for those who want to add some aesthetic value to their garden/lawn. While it is on the expensive end of the wind spinner category, the build quality, aesthetics, and lifetime warranty make it an extremely compelling offer.
After all, it is forged from high-grade copper and brass. This heavy-duty and sturdy wind sculpture will easily withstand even the harshest weather conditions and will be a garden treasure for your lifetime.
Aesthetics
As far as the aesthetic value of the product goes, it is indeed a treat to look at. Its shiny copper shade reflects a sense of royalty and prestige. The blade design is beautiful and symmetrical, and as the video above shows, when it is spinning, this kinetic wind sculpture is a wonderful object to attract attention.
The Stanwood Dancing Willow Leaves sculpture features sculpted willow leaves, creating an interesting balance between natural and industrial materials. The gentle curves of the willow leaves are nicely juxtaposed with the strength and polish of the copper material.
The sparkling dynamic when the light reflects off of the spinning metal is truly a sight to behold! These can really work well when combined with a bird feeder, attracting birds to your area.
Functionality
This wind sculpture makes use of two ball bearings that make the wheels spin in opposite directions. Along with that, there is a third bearing that allows rotation of both the wheels in over 360 degrees. These mechanisms allow for the two pinwheels to spin in opposite directions around a central axis, spinning the two pinwheels freely on its axis.
The bearing is quite easy to attach on to the pole, as it slips right in with great ease. Since it is hammed on to a soft ground, it is also quite easy to be removed. The spinner includes an additional 3 point stability system, as shown here, resulting in 4 points of contact in the ground. This adds quite a bit to the stability of the spinner.
Material and Build Quality
The whole structure of the sculpture is made of high-grade copper and brass. This high-end material treatment adds to the overall sturdiness and strength of the structure, allowing it to withstand wind speeds up to 140 mph. The metal, however, will naturally age over time.
If buyers want to keep the finish shiny and new, regularly coating the unit with clear lacquer spray [Amazon] will be required to maintain its shine.
Moreover, the Stanwood Dancing Willow Kinetic Wind Sculpture is weather-resistant — after all, copper and brass are classic materials used in home building and construction for centuries. Exposure to humidity/rain or sun heat will not affect its attractiveness, though if it is not treated, it will fade to the classic copper green patina over time.
The overall combination of the right weight, height, and strength makes this sculpture perfect for no-fuss outdoor sculpture.
Assembly
The assembly procedure for this wind sculpture is pretty simple and can be accomplished in 15 minutes, assuming you have the tools handy.
Here is a list of tools that you will require for the assembly:
- Rubber Mallet
- Pair of gloves for safety
Pole anchoring instructions:
Use a rubber mallet to hammer the central pole into a grassy/soft ground. Hammer it until the black mark on the pole is in line with the ground. At this point, the pole will be 1 ft. into the ground.
Next, hammer down one of the support stakes into the ground after sliding it into the main pole.
Position another stake at an angle of 120 degrees with respect to the first stake, after sliding it into the major pole and hammer it down. Then slide the other stake into the pole, and position it in such a way so that it is right in the middle of the other two stakes, and hammer it down.
Finally, connect the other section of the pole on top of this section.
Assembly instructions for the wheels:
Attach the spinner wheels on the T-shaft so that the open end of the bearings facing away from the shaft.
Use your hands to tighten them as much as possible. Mount the wheels on top of the major pole.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Having quite a simple design, with only two wheels of blade-shaped leaves mounted on an arm, cleaning of this wind sculpture is quite easy. However, the wheels of leaves might lose their tendency to spin freely over time.
This is because ball bearings that cause the leaf wheels to spin, can lose lubrication over a long period of time. In this case, changing them or adding some lubricant might become necessary.
Accessories
The most important accessory for this wind spinner is a clear lacquer spray [Amazon], assuming you intend to keep the shiny finish. By periodically spraying the wind spinner with a clear lacquer, the finish will be protected.
If you do not want this, you could choose to let it weather to the classic green weathered copper patina. It looks beautiful to some, but others prefer the shiny metal look (we do!)
Placement
As a general guideline, a hanging height of around 15 to 18 inches (38 to 45 cm) from the ground is often a good starting point for this egg chair. From there, you can adjust the height based on user comfort and preferences. It’s a good idea to have someone sit in the chair while it’s hanging to check if the height feels comfortable and safe.
Consider the height of the person who will be using the egg chair most frequently, as their feet should comfortably touch the ground when seated in the chair, even when it’s at its lowest point in the swinging motion.
The Bottom Line
Given the artistry and build quality involved in creating the Stanwood Willow Leaves Wind Sculpture, its price seems wholly justified. We realize that it is significantly higher priced than many other kinetic wind spinner options on the market, but this is a high quality, elegant product.
It is covered under a lifetime warranty, and we would be more concerned about a fellow garden lover stealing the beautiful sculpture than it breaking! The quality is that good, and this spinner will create beautiful patterns for generations.
