The Suncast 134 Gallon Deck Box is a stylish resin wicker deck box with an extra large 134-gallon storage capacity. It has a handsome look that blends well with many decor styles and features a good deal of functionality at an aggressive price point. Supplied in a dark brown “java” color, it will blend well with most other resin wicker outdoor furniture, and many may not even notice that it is a storage container.

Materials and Build Quality
The Suncast Extra Large deck box is made of double wall resin wicker material and is quite robust. The panels are reasonably thick and are finished in a resin wicker look, which is surprisingly attractive and will blend with other furniture pieces on your patio or deck.
Note: the resin wicker isn’t actually woven, and the panels only give the look of a woven finish. In reality, each wall is a single piece of resin.
The Warranty
Suncast provides a 5-year limited warranty on the 134 Gallon Deck Box. This is a very good warranty, and though it is not the best around, it is solid enough that buyers can be comfortable that Suncast stands behind the quality of their units, and their deck box will stay functional for many years after purchase.

Operating the Suncast 134 Gallon Deck Box
Hinge System
The hinge system on the Suncast Deck Box 134 Gallon is well made and operates easily.
One cannot open the lid over 90′, so if you need a box with a lid that flips all the way down, you may want to look elsewhere.
Lid and Pistons
The lid is well constructed and is sturdy enough for one or two people to sit upon without bending or flexing (Suncast recommends not more than 300 lbs total).
There is a slight curve to the lid, which means it doesn’t function ideally as a table, but could be used as a table for certain items that don’t need to lay completely flat.
The pistons are hydraulic powered, and function similar to a car’s trunk. They are easy to open and will stay open until you’re ready to close the lid. A simple push and they will close down.
Locking Hasp
The Suncast extra large deck box has a locking hasp molded into the design. The lid and the front panel have holes for a padlock to be installed, which will secure the two pieces together. This should keep the contents safe from prying hands, and from critters seeking to get in.
That said, it would be easy enough to cut through the box itself with a razor knife, so we don’t recommend storing a Picasso in this box!
Molded Handles
Built into the sides of the Suncast Deck box 134 Gallon design are two molded handles, that allow the box to be moved. You’ll need two people to move it, and if you’ve got a bunch of stuff in there, it can be heavy! But it is possible to move this deck box as needed.
Storage Capacity
This deck box is great for storing large furniture cushions, sectional furniture cushions, pool toys, outdoor sports equipment, etc. It has a good deal of space inside, and can easily be organized to store several different items, stacked upon each other.
Water Resistance
The Suncast 134 Gallon Deck box is water-tight, and assuming it is built correctly, should be impervious to water. The lid has a well-designed lip that prevents water from dripping down and into the interior of the deck box.
That said, it does not have a gasket that would make it completely water-proof, and damp air may get into the box. We would suggest opening it up every few days in order to prevent mildew and mold build up.
Interior Walls and Shelving
There are no shelves or separators included in the Suncast deck box package. You could easily create some dividers by cutting some plywood panels. Alternately, you could just find some storage bins of the appropriate size for your needs, and store the bins inside the deck box for easy organization.
Assembly and Use
Assembly of the Suncast 134 Gallon Deck box is pretty simple and can be completed in a couple of hours with basic tools. If you would like to take a look at the instructions so you can see what you’ll be getting into, you can find the Suncast BMDB134004 manual here [PDF download].
As you can see, the instructions are not the best, and you may find yourself confused during the assembly process. Still, it should all eventually make sense, and in a few hours, you should have your deck box built. Pay close attention to the narratives along with each image, and that should help answer some questions.

Suncast does not recommend using a power drill to get this deck box up and built.
Accessories
The only accessory you may want with your Suncast 134 Gallon Deck Box is a padlock. Even if there are no real valuables in the deck box, the padlock will help keep the lid from flipping up in a heavy wind gust, so it is helpful regardless of whether you need a lock for security.
The Bottom Line on the Suncast Extra Large Deck Box
The Suncast 134 Gallon Deck Box is an excellent choice for those who have the sort of patio design where the deck box is out on display. If the deck box can’t be easily seen, we might go for the Lifetime extra large deck box (see our review here) based on its price.
However, if the deck box is out where it can be seen, the Suncast Extra Large deck box wins easily. It has essentially the same features as the Lifetime, a slightly larger storage capacity, and a much more attractive finish.

Hi. We purchased our Suncast box from home depot. It is a very nice box, except that the hydraulic piston do not open fully. We are only able to open the lid to about 30 degrees. Is there anything i can do to make this work fully?
That is very odd! I haven’t seen that before. All I can think of is that something is wrong with the piston, it is somehow catching on something, or it is installed incorrectly. Are you sure it’s not upside down or something? I wish you luck figuring it out!
?. The end tabs on the front panel will not line up not sure if piece is defective or just not going together right.
