Runner Up Vinyl Pergola Kits
The New England Arbors Venetian Pergola Kit is very similar to the Malibu Pergola Kit mentioned above but does not include the shade canopy. Should you desire to run some vines, roses, grapes, etc. along the pergola, you may not want a shade kit. In this case, the Venetian is a great option. The footprint is similar, at 10′ x 10′, and is enough to accommodate most patio sets, hot tubs, and outdoor furniture sets.
Assembly is fairly simple, and the materials are completely maintenance and worry-free. The Venetian pergola kit is covered by the same twenty-year warranty New England Arbors offers on all of its products, which makes this a safe bet!

New England Arbors did not make an assembly video guide for this pergola, but assembly is fairly similar to the NEA Venetian pergola, so peruse that video if you want some context.
Installing on Concrete or Wood
If you’d like to install the New England Arbors Malibu pergola on a concrete pad, patio blocks, or a wood deck, be sure to purchase the bolt down bracket kit. This system is quite easy, and doesn’t require digging or hard work!
Installing on Grass
To install this pergola in a lawn or garden environment, you will need 4″x4″ pressure treated posts, sunken into the ground with footings. Get out your shovel!
See our footing diagram above for the essentials of installation.
The Details
The Malibu pergola is a really nice pergola kit, with wonderful lines and a good deal of visual interest, and the shade canopy really completes the design.
It features several molding pieces, keyways, decorative post caps, etc. which results in a splendid, chic look.
The canopy is adjustable but is not retractable. The top is constantly shaded, while the two sides can be raised and lowered from 33″ to 68″, for additional sun protection. By pulling the canopy one way or the other, one side is raised and the other side is lowered. It is a simple design and is quite effective at providing shade from the bright sun.
It provides shade from the sun, but is not water resistant and will not stop the rain.
The canopy is easy to take on and off, and it is wise to remove the canopy during the winter months for protection.
Cleaning and Care
The primary structure of the Malibu pergola needs no maintenance. It won’t rot, warp, or deform. Cleaning is performed by simply hosing the material down with water, and scrubbing any stained spots with a brush and some mild soap.
The curtain should be removed if the weather is going to be especially stormy, as it can blow and tear. It should also be removed during the winter months, for protection.
The Bottom Line
The Malibu pergola kit is a great addition to any backyard or patio space and will last virtually forever. New England Arbors gives its 20-year warranty on this kit and also includes a two-year warranty on the fabric canopy as well.
If a 10′ x 10′ pergola will be adequate for your needs, it’s hard to beat the Malibu vinyl pergola kit for beauty, functionality, and durability. The custom canvas is included, so no need to fuss around getting a custom shade built! These pergolas are the best vinyl pergola kits available.
- Material: Crafted from durable BPA/phthalate-free vinyl
- Adjustable canvas canopy for privacy and shade
- Maintenance free: Easy to maintain and clean
- Color: White
- 20-year warranty (pergola), 2-year warranty (canvas)

#2. Venetian Vinyl Pergola – VA42022
The Venetian Vinyl Pergola, made by New England Arbors, is a beautiful white pergola with a great deal of detail and visual interest. It is only available in white, and this PVC Pergola should not be painted.
The inside dimension of this pergola is 9′ x 9′, so it is big enough to fit a decent sized table and maybe 6 chairs under the canopy. It is a great size for a hot tub or for a small to medium sized patio table.
Dimensions and Weight
- Inside Length: 110″ (9’2″)
- Outside Length: 145″ (12′ 1″)
- Inside Width: 110″ (9’2″)
- Outside Width: 145″ (12’1″)
- Post Size: 5″ x 5″
- Ceiling Height: 96″ (8′)
- Overall Height: 107″ (8’9″)
- Shipping Weight: 270lbs
Assembly and Installation
The Venetian Vinyl Pergola VA42022 is relatively simple to put together, and should go up in roughly 6-8 hours of time for two people.
New England Arbors has created this video to show the assembly process.
Installing on Concrete or Wood
Depending on the material you are anchoring to, you may need additional mounting hardware. If you intend to connect this pergola to concrete or to patio blocks, be sure to pick up the bolt down bracket kit.
Installing on Grass
To install this pergola in the grass, you will need 4″x4″ pressure treated posts, sunken into the ground with footings. See our footing diagram above for the essentials of installation.
The Details
The Venetian Vinyl Pergola is filled with moldings and small details that make it feel very luxurious and well designed. The top horizontal pieces are spaced approximately 18″ apart, and the whole pergola feels like everything is covered, design-wise.
It’s not particularly modern, given the number of end caps, crown moldings, etc., but can look stunning in any sort of environment due to its verticality. When properly assembled, this pergola can hold a decent amount of weight, and hanging plants can be suspended from its crosshatching. A swing may be a bit too heavy for this pergola, though, and is not recommended.
The Venetian pergola has the feel of wood, with the durability and hardiness of vinyl. The vinyl is high quality and does not give off the “cheap vinyl siding” vibe. It is virtually indestructible and brings classic design and elegance to the backyard or patio.
These pergolas offer shade to those who spend time underneath, without completely obscuring the sun. They work well both placed near the primary structure to cap off a patio or set off in the distance, freestanding in the garden as a location to draw the eye outward.
Cleaning and Care
Because these units are made of vinyl, there is not a huge amount of care required to keep them looking stunning. Hose them down as needed with water, and give them an occasional wash with a mild detergent and a brush to get any pesky stains off of the white vinyl.
The Bottom Line
The Venetian Vinyl Pergola is a very high-quality freestanding pergola and would make a great addition to virtually any backyard or patio space. One of the outstanding aspects of New England Arbors’ product line that makes their pieces so compelling is the twenty-year warranty they offer. It’s hard to argue with that!
The instructions are easy to understand, and assembly is not terribly difficult, as long as you’re willing to get your hands dirty. Be sure you have a really good screw gun, and a couple of batteries, and you should be good to go! After a few hours of work, you will have years of enjoyment and beauty ahead of you. These pergolas are among the best pergola kits for sale.
- Item may ship in more than one box and may arrive separately
- 5" x 5" Posts
- Classic Design
- Maintenance Free
- Easy to Assemble

#3. Harbor Bay 7.67 x 7.67-ft. Vinyl Pergola With Weather-Resistant Construction and 5 Shade Filters Across The Top
The Harbor Bay vinyl pergola is a fantastic pergola for those who are on a tight budget and don’t need a particularly large pergola. This white PVC pergola kit is simple, modern, and has a large number of features at an aggressive price.
Dimensions and Weight
- Inside Length: 92″ (7’6″)
- Outside Length: 107″ (8′ 9″)
- Inside Width: 92″ (7’6″)
- Outside Width: 107″ (8’9″)
- Post Size: 5″ x 5″
- Ceiling Height: 83″ (6’9″)
- Overall Height: 96″ (8′)
Assembly and Installation
Similar to the New England Arbors products, the Belham Living Harbor Bay Vinyl Pergola goes together in about 6-8 hours, assuming two people are working diligently on the project. There are no unusual tools required other than what would be found in a typical toolbox (a drill and a level, primarily).
Be sure you have a good cordless drill, and a lot of battery power when you start this process.
Installing on Concrete or Wood
As the dimension of the posts is the same as those of New England Arbors, you can use the New England Arbors bolt down bracket kit to attach this pergola to concrete or wood.
For installation on lawn or garden spaces, you will need to dig footings for 4″ x 4″ pressure treated posts. These posts will be buried in the ground, and the pergola post sleeves will slide over the pressure treated wood.
See our footing detail for more information.
The Details
The Belham Living Harbor Bay vinyl pergola kit is on the small side, and this is its biggest downfall. The kit is well designed, well made, and includes virtually everything you need for a great pergola. However, it is on the small side, and if your patio set or hot tub is a little bit big, this will be a deal breaker for many.
To get a sense of the size, place four stakes 7’6 intervals around your patio furniture, and you can get a sense of the scale of the Harbor Bay pergola. Many patio sets will fit under it, but having a pergola with furniture that spills out from the overall canopy is awkward, so check your sizes.
But, if the size fits in your backyard, why not?
This pergola kit is a great value and is made of maintenance-free PVC. These pergola kits won’t rot, fade, yellow, twist, or degrade for decades to come. Belham Living backs them with a 20-year limited warranty.
Also included in this package is a set of 5 shade filters that sit atop the pergola, crossing the slats. These shade screens are quite useful, providing respite from the sun. They do not protect from rain and are not waterproof. They should be taken in when not in use.
Cleaning and Care
These pergolas require virtually no maintenance. The structure is all PVC and needs only to be hosed down from time to time. Any difficult stains can be scrubbed off with a little soap and a brush.
The shade panels should be taken in when not in use, as they will be damaged by prolonged sun exposure, and from the excess wind.
The Bottom Line
The Belham Harbor Bay Vinyl Pergola is a fantastic pergola at a very impressive price point. These vinyl pergola kits are covered under a twenty-year limited warranty, and if you can deal with the small space considerations, are the best choice for those on a budget.
With a simple, modern look without excessive adornment, the included shade panels, and maintenance-free materials, the Harbor Bay pergola kit offers everything you need at an unbeatable price.

#4. New England Arbors Mirage Pergola
The New England Arbors Mirage Pergola is a delightful white vinyl pergola that looks beautiful and is extremely low maintenance. It is only available in white, and the PVC material should not be painted.
This pergola is 8′ x 8′ inside and is large enough to surround a small patio table, a small patio set, or a reasonably-sized hot tub. It is a bit tight if you’re planning on having a sizable furniture footprint beneath the pergola.
Dimensions and Weight
- Inside Length: 96″ (8′)
- Outside Length: 129″ (10’9″)
- Inside Width: 96″ (8′)
- Outside Width: 129″ (10’9″)
- Post Size: 5″ x 5″
- Ceiling Height: 85″ (7’1″)
- Overall Height: 95″ (7’9″)
- Shipping Weight: 190lbs
Assembly and Installation
New England Arbors estimates that assembly of the Mirage pergola will take about 6-8 hours for two people, assuming they have some knowledge of furniture assembly and basic construction. Be sure you have a good quality screw gun and a couple of extra batteries!
New England Arbors did not make an assembly video guide for this pergola, but assembly is fairly similar to the NEA Venetian pergola, so check that video out if you want to get a general idea of the complexity.
Installing on Concrete or Wood
Should you plan to place the Mirage pergola on a concrete pad, patio blocks, or a wood deck, pick up the bolt down bracket kit. This system is quite easy, and doesn’t require digging!
Installing on Grass
To install this pergola in grass, you will need 4″x4″ pressure treated posts, sunken into the ground with footings. Get out your shovel!
See our footing diagram above for the essentials of installation.
The Details
The Mirage Pergola Kit features an all-PVC structure, which goes together pretty quickly and will last a lifetime, or nearly that! Relative to the Venetian pergola, also made by NEA, the Mirage has fewer moldings and details. This is not a bad thing, and the lack of excessive moldings lets the simple, classic beauty of the pergola form shine through on the Mirage.
Manufactured in Ontario, these units are built of excellent quality materials and are made of thick PVC vinyl. The thickness varies from piece to piece, naturally, but the whole structure is of good quality.
The top slats are spaced approximately 18″ apart and supply plenty of visual interest. Should you desire to run vines above the pergola, they will look fantastic intertwined with the PVC material. And the PVC won’t rot!
The Mirage is a bit on the small side, so check your patio furniture to see if it feels like it will be comfortable enclosed in this 8′ x 8′ space. We would suggest drawing some post locations on the ground in an 8′ x 8′ configuration so that you can get a sense of how this will feel around your furniture.
Cleaning and Care
The Mirage is extremely resilient and can handle being left out in the elements for decades. Made of a similar material to vinyl fencing, this material needs to be sprayed down with water from time to time and perhaps scrubbed down with a mild detergent every so often. Beyond that, there is very little care required.
The Bottom Line
If you have the space for it, we definitely suggest stepping up at least to the Venetian pergola if you are interested in a New England Arbors pergola. The 8′ x 8′ area is a bit restricting, and the last thing you want to do is purchase a pergola, assemble it and install it, and then ultimately decide a slightly larger unit would be preferable. The cost difference is relatively small, and assembly and installation are the same.
That said, the Mirage is a perfectly good pergola, and if you are space constrained or know that 8’x8′ is the size you need for your use case, the Mirage is an excellent choice for a long lasting PVC pergola. It is covered by New England Arbors’ 20-year warranty, which is a huge selling point. These units are essentially indestructible, but a warranty is always good.
- Material: Crafted from durable BPA/phthalate-free vinyl
- Maintenance free: Easy to maintain and clean
- Color: White
- 20-year warranty

#5. Royal Khaki Pergola
The Royal Khaki Pergola is a nice change from the all-white vinyl pergola kits we have looked at already. The handsome grayish brown is a very nice color choice and feels a little more modern than some of the all-white versions on this list.
The Royal Khaki pergola is relatively minimal in design, without excessive moldings, and would fit very nicely in a modern or transitional patio environment. It is quite small, though, and its price point doesn’t compete as well as some of the other smaller budget pergola kits.
Dimensions and Weight
- Length: 88″ (7’3″)
- Width: 88″ (7’3″)
- Post Size: 5″ x 5″
- Ceiling Height: 96″ (8′)
- Weight: 142 lbs
Assembly and Installation
Weatherables does not give any time estimate on the length of time required to assemble the Royal Khaki pergola, but the assembly is very similar to that of the other pergolas on this list, so it should be accomplished in 6-8 hours for two people. The main tools required are a good cordless drill with lots of battery power, and a level.
Installation on Decks and Patios
The Royal pergola has the 5″ x 5″ posts and will work with the New England Arbors bolt down bracket kit. For patio and deck installation, this system is quite simple and does not require any digging or significant work.
Installation on Lawn
If you plan to install the Weatherables Royal Pergola in a lawn or garden area, you’ll need to set 4″ x 4″ pressure treated posts in the ground, and slip the sleeves of the pergola over the posts, similar to the process of installing a fence. See our footing diagram for more information.
The Details
The main distinctive features of the Weatherables Royal Khaki pergola is the handsome color scheme and overall aesthetic. The construction is very similar to the other pergola kits on our list, and assembly is about as complex as the others as well.
These vinyl pergola kits are made in the USA and will last essentially forever. They are virtually maintenance free, and are made of high-quality PVC that will never need to be painted, and will not rot or warp.
The footprint of the Royal pergola is small and will accommodate a small bistro table, small patio set, and perhaps a small hot tub. If the size of this pergola works for your needs, it is a good choice, though its price is high relative to some of the other pergolas in this size range.
Still, we love the color!
Cleaning and Care
Cleaning of the Weatherables Royal Khaki Pergola is simple. Hose it down every so often to get rid of pollen and dust. For more pervasive stains, scrub it with a mild detergent and a scrub brush or sponge.
The Bottom Line
If you love the color and overall aesthetic of the Royal Pergola, the fit works for your environment, it is a great choice. Weatherables backs the Royal Pergola Kit with a 30-year warranty against manufacturer’s defects. That’s the best warranty on our list, but truthfully all of the warranties are excellent. These vinyl pergola kits will essentially last indefinitely.
With its simple lines and tasteful, stylish form, the Royal Pergola Kit excels at providing a chic vibe for your patio table, hot tub, or little getaway spot. However, given its size and the price point it hits, we feel other pergolas on this list are generally a better choice.

#6. New England Arbors Eden Pergola 12 x 12 ft. Dual-Colored Pergola
The New England Arbors Eden Pergola is a generously-sized 12′ x 12′ dual colored pergola. This vinyl pergola kit is beautiful, with a good deal of moldings and detail, and the dual-color design brings a little more visual interest to this setup than some of the other designs available.
The horizontal beams are made of recycled wood pulp, a maintenance-free environmentally friendly choice, and the vertical posts are made of PVC in a white tone.
Dimensions and Weight
- Inside Length: 134″ (11’2″)
- Outside Length: 144″ (12′)
- Inside Width: 134″ (11’2″)
- Outside Width: 144″ (12′)
- Post Size: 5″ x 5″
- Ceiling Height: 94″ (7’10”)
- Overall Height: 105.75″ (8’10”)
Assembly and Installation
New England Arbors estimates that assembly of the Eden pergola will take about 6-8 hours for two people, assuming they have some knowledge of furniture assembly and basic construction. The assembly is generally not difficult and doesn’t require any special tools not in a typical toolbox. Just be sure you have a good quality cordless drill and some extra batteries!
New England Arbors did not make an assembly video guide for this pergola, but assembly is fairly similar to the NEA Venetian pergola. Take a look at that video out if you want to get the gist of the process.
Installing on Concrete or Wood
If you wish to put the Eden pergola on a concrete pad, patio blocks, or a wood deck, be sure you order the bolt down bracket kit. This system is quite easy, and doesn’t require digging! Just drill some holes into the base, and screw the brackets down. The pergola attaches to the brackets.
Installing on Grass
To install this pergola on a lawn or grassy area, you will need 4″x4″ pressure treated posts, sunken into the ground with footings. Get out that shovel and the wheelbarrow for mixing cement!
See our footing diagram above for the essentials of installation.
The Details
The New England Arbors Eden pergola is a great size for a pergola and is capable of accommodating a fairly large table and several chairs underneath, a patio set, and some patio sectionals. Most hot tubs will fit underneath without much difficulty. If your patio or backyard can handle this size of a pergola, we definitely suggest going a little bigger rather than a little smaller.
The two-tone design is quite nice, and the recycled wood pulp horizontal beams and rafters are a nice touch. These materials won’t rot, fade, warp, or otherwise degrade in the elements, and are similar to the materials found on vinyl fence panels, and on Trex composite decking.
The Eden features a large number of moldings and a lot of detail. The two-toned design mutes the details a bit, as the eye sees two separate colors and separate details for each color.
Made in Canada, the Eden vinyl pergola kit is very attractive, and would fit in any backyard or patio space, from modern to Mediterranean, to transitional!
Cleaning and Maintenance
Like all of the vinyl pergola kits on our list, there is virtually no maintenance to these pergolas. The materials won’t crack, warp, wear or degrade over time. Once the pergola is assembled, really all that is necessary is to give the pergola a hose down with water every so often, and perhaps a scrub with a mild detergent and a brush for any stubborn stains.
The Bottom Line
We quite like New England Arbors’ take on the two-tone pergola, and making this sort of design in wood would be difficult. The white paint would need to be maintained, and the wood constantly re-stained. This system is elegant, chic, and well thought out.
However, we could see getting sick of the two-tone design over time, and it may be wiser to stick with one tone, and then get a retractable shade on the top to bring some different color interest. Over the years, the shade material can be changed, giving more design options without the two-tone system.

Vinyl Pergola Kit Buyer’s Guide
Materials
Pergolas come in three main classes of materials. Here we briefly discuss the three, and the pros and cons of each.
Vinyl (PVC)
The main attraction a vinyl pergola kit offers is the maintenance-free durability of PVC. Used for many years in vinyl fencing and on homes, this rugged material is one of the most durable materials around. It can handle heat, snow, rain, ice, and dinosaurs without cracking, splitting, or warping. Well, maybe not dinosaurs, but you get the idea. Vinyl does not need to be painted or maintained, will not rot or yellow, and will last indefinitely.
Metal
Aluminum and Steel are common materials for pergola kits. These pergolas are heavy and modern looking and can be quite attractive. Metal is long lasting outdoors, especially when it is powder coated for protection. However, it may need to be painted from time to time, if the powder coat begins to wear. Rust can form on those wear spots, and cause headaches in the future.
Wood
Cedar, Redwood, Mahogany, Fir, etc. All of these woods are common woods for pergola kits. Wood can look absolutely breathtaking on a pergola and is a classic material. However, depending on the style you’re looking for, keeping wood stained and in good condition is a lot of work. Painting or staining a pergola requires a ladder and a good painter, as there are lots of joints and small spots that need attention.
When left to weather, untreated, wood can look spectacular, but many people don’t like the weathered wood look. If you plan to paint your pergola, it may make the most sense to stick with vinyl.
Sizing
When planning your pergola, you need to pay close attention to proper sizing. Pergola manufacturers give their sizing dimensions in different ways, and we have tried to focus on interior sizing, as that is key. Some manufacturers figure exterior sizing from the outside of the posts, while others figure the exterior sizing from the outside of the ends of the rafters.
It’s the inside that counts the most, generally.
Be sure your patio set, outdoor sectional, or dining table will fit under the pergola, and make sure the head height is appropriate for your needs. You don’t want to get an ill-fitting pergola, and find out that your sectional sofa is 1.5x as big as the pergola! It will look awkward.
Plan out your pergola by putting stakes in the ground at the appropriate intervals (or use chalk on a concrete patio) and you can be sure you have the right fit.
Assembly and Installation
Most pergola kits on the market today can be assembled in a day by two individuals. Depending on how the pergola is mounted, it can go up pretty quickly by those experienced in assembling furniture, etc. The work can be difficult, but generally, no special tools other than a really good drill and a level are needed. Oh, and batteries for the drill, be sure you have extra!
Installation
Pergolas are usually installed onto patios and decks, or onto lawns and gardens. These two circumstances require different installation methods.
Installation on a Deck or Concrete Patio
Use the appropriate post bracket kit for your pergola to install onto a concrete patio or onto a deck. Typically, the bracket kit is screwed into the concrete at four points, and the vinyl sleeves of the posts slip over the brackets.
This installation is quite simple, and while you may need a masonry drill bit or perhaps a hammer drill, you won’t need to do a whole lot of work to get your posts in. Be sure you measure twice though!
Installation in a Lawn or Garden
Note: diagram is for reference use only, consult a building inspector in your area, or a structural engineer, if necessary, to confirm footings.
If you want to install into a lawn or garden, you will need to buy four 4″ x 4″ pressure treated posts, likely 8′ long. These posts are available at home improvement centers or the local lumber yard. Be sure you request ground contact rated pressure treated posts, as these won’t rot.
You’ll need to dig a hole in the ground, at least to 4′ depth if you live in a climate where the ground freezes. Purchase a sona tube from your local hardware store or lumber yard, and insert that into the hole. Place the post in the tube so that 4′ is sticking up, and pour concrete around the post, bringing it to level with the ground. Be sure the post is plumb and level before moving onto the next.
Janet Schmitt says
We have a 12×16 deck and would like a pergola that would cover this size deck. Do you have kits for that size?
OutsideModern says
We don’t sell kits ourselves, we just review and compare different options that are available. That said, New England Arbors sells a 12′ x 16′ Valencia pergola kit. However, it is designed to be attached to the house, so this may not work with your situation.
